Leaking fuel injectors
« on: December 14, 2012, 05:11:41 PM »

Hi guys back on the forum with the dreaded black death appearing around nbr5 injector. I know the drill involved in the repair of this problem and have been quoted £1850 all in for the complete job of dropping engine and gearbox replacement of injectors and all the other bits required. My question is this to expensive or a reasonable price for such a job or is there anywhere else you guys can recommend at a lesser price. It could mean a change of car if this is the general cost of this fault and it won't be another jeep. Thanks in anticipation for your opinions and or recommendations.

Hi
I had the same problem with my 2002 JGC 2.7 this year.
I had a mobile Merc specialist down to North Wales from North Yorkshire.
He dropped the gearbox and engine, removed all the injectors and serviced them.
Removed all the carbon deposits.
Re cut the injector seats in the cylinder head.
Replaced all the stretch bolts and sealing washers.
Carried out a diagnostic test on completion.
He carried out the job from the back of his van and under a tarpaulin(it was raining) next to my house which took him eight hours.
His cost would have been £550 but he replaced one of the injectors with a recon injector(£60)
Total cost was £620 all in, with a 20,000 mile or twelve months warranty.
The engine looks like new and runs sweet as a nut. I can highly recommend him.
He can be contacted on 01423 862204 or 07577 473486 or email: indigomerc@aol.co.uk
I would use the mobile number as he travels all over the country doing this job.

Guys thanks again for your quick responses, I live in Surrey the car is a 2002 with approx 125,000 miles under its belt. Thanks TaffyBoy that is a much better quote for the work req and is exactly the repair that was quoted for to me but a hell of a lot cheaper. You've all come good again cheers

You got your answer already but your original quote is daylight robbery.

Had all 5 injectors done by jeep, remove, recon & refit (+the washers and all that jazz). Did not drop engine but they made a small hole in de body above.

£1200'ish IIRC.

Yep runs sweet as a nut now.
