The TJ Lives
« on: November 04, 2014, 05:25:16 PM »

fitted the pcm I got from USA and the TJ fired straight up even though the alarm was sounding and the immobiliser light was solid red. pulled the wires to the alarm horn and went for a drive.

easy fix for the immobiliser fault and wont have to worry again about it stranding me.

This is what I ordered

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/56041627-1998-JEEP-WRANGLER-TJ-4-0-Ecu-Pcm-VIN-MILEAGE-Programmed-With-Warranty-/271644624183?

cant fault the suppliers, I supplied my vin, part number, mileage and eight days later the pcm arrived. simple swop over and away you go.

Nice one.  Did your Jeep have the May Schofield system installed that caused the fault with the original PCM?.

yes mine had the may schofield system fitted. you don't need to remove any of it to get the new pcm to work

On my ZJ (still need to do a write up) I managed to remove the May and Schofield system and get it running

The ZG system is the only one that can be removed because it's the first one May and Scumfield did for Chrysler Jeep imports. Chrysler corporation wouldn't let them have access to the code so that it could communicate with the PCM over the CCD bus, so they piggy backed it onto the body control module with a jumper harness instead. This system simply interrupts vital circuits old skool stylee. With the XJ and TJ systems, they were allowed the code, so the immobiliser communicates with the PCM over the bus, which has the factory anti-theft system activated. The Jeep will not run unless it gets the go-ahead from the immobiliser. That's why you can't remove them.

Well done for getting your Jeep going again.  :icon_super:

I'm confused, I've got a US PCM (which admitedly I haven't tried yet) on the shelf in case I lose the immobiliser fob. I didn't give them my VIN or anything, I just bought a US PCM from a TJ with the same spec. As I understood it, because the US PCMs don't have the immobiliser functionality turned on, they ignored the M&S immobiliser module?

If this is true, I don't get why you need to send your VIN etc?

What have I missed?

They have the vin stored in them and record mileage. The suppliers are putting the receiving vehicle's VIN and current mileage into the memory. If you have a used PCM, if you scan it with a DRBIII you will find the VIN and recorded mileage of the vehicle it came out of. All new PCMs had anti theft capability but it isn't enabled unless you turn it on with a DRB III scan tool. You can't, however reverse this. In the UK the anti theft was turned on by Chrysler Jeep Imports when the May and Scumfield units were retro - fitted in Sheerness.

Glad my TJ does'nt have the Scumfield system, it has the SKIS system with the chip in the key.  It was built Oct 97 as a 98 model year, must have been one of the first with SKIS.
