Title: passenger footwell water
Post by: Doodle on November 17, 2015, 09:07:16 PM
Evening,

Im at my wits end as i just cannot find where its coming from.

i have a 2001 TJ and of late it seems to be getting lots of water in the passenger footwell.

Ive had the cowl off and blown through the drian hole ive resealed the vent in there as well. Ive put a piece of tube on the vent out in the engine bay- could this be clogged inside?

There is the intake behind the battery- is there meant to be a cover over this at all?

It seems to just be 'normal' rainwater etc as ive just been away for a week and come back to a nice puddle and i know it hasnt been driven for at least 13 days- also know its rained heavily.

I just cannot see where its getting in- i cannot even see dried water marks -Has anyone else had similar- Its only just started doing this- I know ive had new flat fenders etc added but not convinced it did this after i had them on as i drove it through france for a break in trip and it pissed down all week.

Any advice would be great on what/where to check please?

The vent from the Cowl which runs down the rear of the engine gets very gummed up inside .... took me several attempts with my Daughters baby bottle cleaning brush ..  :011: .. to completely clear it.

Had all of that off the other day and it was dry inside but also poured water out underneath when i put the hose running down it- so assumed that ut was clear enough

Try the passenger door seal at top front corner where it meets the screen. I had a leak there and it ran down the inside of the door panel so you couldn't see where it was coming from. Also check the clips on your top are fully in place.
Apart from that, I would have said the vent cowl as well.

Heater matrix will also leak into the passenger foot well. However it shouldn't be that much water. Maybe worth checking.

Is it possible for the foam around the heater box to have deteriorated?

That's what my next thought was but needed a picture really to clarify

The only other one I can think of is do you have a hard top fitted?

Last year mine seemed to have a lot of condensation forming on the inside od the hard top at this time of the year. Because of the slight incline to the left where I park the TJ, the condensation pooled on the passenger side and dripped from the roof into the footwell.

No- no hard top. Soft top is old but...

It seems to have disappeared but not ruling out that's it's fixed. I came back from 10 days away last week and there was a just under 1/4 inch of water in the footwell. It's parked on a level surface against a wall.

Was wondering if it's because I have aftermarket arches/fenders on? Mind you I have thought if lots of different things  :headhack:
