Title: XJ airbag light issue
Post by: just-boot-it on November 22, 2015, 01:08:28 PM
Hi all

After a enthusiastic drive round Stainby this summer the airbag light illuminated on the dash after a sudden stop ( rock ) Works snap on ethos box won't clear the light as the codes have words like 'stored logic' and 'accelerometer'. Can you just change the module under the centre armrest of do you have to take faff with checking all the sensors? MOT time in Jan  :icon_sad:

Stainby Eh......
You never come away from there scot free  :icon_super: :icon_super:

Have you tried disconnecting the battery for 10 mins to reset the ECU?

Cures all sorts of things on my ZJ....

Failing That..... A bit more black tape to cover yet another bulb  :icon_winkle:

Just noticed who "Just-Boot-it" is    :icon_rolleyes: :icon_rolleyes:

can't Miss That Red XJ.....

air bag systems work on wire resistance, so i would check the scurity of connections and for any water ingress if the carpets got damp. i believe its not a case of black tape as the light has to illuminate and clear for an MOT.

Just a word of warning, air bags can be set off by shorting out connections with a multi meter, yes i had to monitor the discharge current during deployment and one was set off getting a base line reading.

dont lean over the steering wheel when playing with connections

Found a brand new airbag module for sale, would just swapping that solve some of the issues.

As far as i know, a non-working SRS/airbag warning light is only an advise for MoT purposes and not a failure. As such if you remove the bulb the most you should get is an advisory which gives you more time to investigate and fix (or do like i've done to one of my cars, remove the airbags and disable the SRS system  :icon_biggrin: ) the problem.

Found out all the fault codes stored are all linked to the airbag control module. Found one on ebay, I'll fit it and see how it goes.
