So my issue is I put my key in turn the ignition on, the normal check lights and beeps come on, however none of the dials work, the milage display is blank, the radio lights up but nothing shows on the screen and it won't turn on, the red antitheft led still flashes and the interior lights do not come on. I am confused. I have checked the fuses of the ones I thought it could be, they are all fine. So I don't know. Any help would be appreciated.

Forgot to stay the vehicle still starts and drives.

It does sound like a fuse Shirley.
On the ZJ there is a fuse panel next to the accelerator pedal.
I blew a fuse the other week which ended up with the same problem as you have got.
Not sure if th XJ has the same fuse board. But worth a look.

Yeah I have checked fuses, well the ones I thought needed checking according to diagram.) I will have another look though.

Do you know what the description of the circuits was for the fuse you blew?
-
I just kept on pulling fuses until I found the one that blew.
This is the best I could find Shirley.

Cluster, radio and interior lights all need power from the IOD fuse which is under the hood.

So. update. found the fuse. 15amp kinda in the middle of the under bonnet fuse box. put a new one in, blew immediately......... i would say there is a bigger problem. yaaay. :die:

That should be fuse 16 which feeds under hood, courtesy and cargo area lamps and the radio and cluster. It's all on a pink wire.
Have you had the radio out recently? Even if you've not, maybe the wiring has been pinched behind there and is shorting out. That's probably the most common area for that wire to short out. There's a small chance that a bulb may have failed and has shorted internally. Might be easier to check those bulbs before pulling the radio to have a look at the wiring behind it.

All sorted now. Seemed to be a faulty interior light switch. Thanks for all the advice.
