Title: slip yoke eliminator?
Post by: georgen on April 25, 2014, 04:52:45 PM
Well have some play in rear transfer shaft and noticed the design is very poor as the shaft sticks right out the rear of transfer box then joins to prop, this in turn must cause massive strain on the transfer box, so being looking about and there is a slip yoke eliminator kit but you also have to change prop to a double cardan style like the front.
question is opinions on the kit and any experience and could I not just get a front shortened and fit on the back?

forgot to put its for a 97 tj with 3.5" lift.

Solutions vary from jeep to jeep install. Depending on the lift manufacturer you might require prop changes at x lift, others may advise changes at a higher lift.

I gather the tom woods web site might advise on what is required for what lift

With the lift on your truck you will need a SYE and the shorter shaft. Don't try and be clever as the SYE is the only option that works well and is most cost effective

You can pick up the complete kit for around £500 off ebay

Place that do mine
Bailey Morris at St Neots. Which also do truck things that are the size of sewer pipes......
Use an XJ Cherokee front prop to get the double cardon bit and cut to size......then balance.
Seems to have stood up the the 39.5 tyres and the 1 ton axles......... So far.
