feckin XJ's..........bah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
« on: November 07, 2005, 09:07:56 PM »

XJ#3 has a few more probs than we first knew about.........

tis squeakin when she corners slowly (we knew about this)....sounds like a diff oil change is needed to me!!!

tis runnin like a bag o shite on tickover on gas, so bad it has stalled a few times..........revs drop off the instant you take yer foot off the gas which makes slowing down for corners, junctions, etc a bit trouser-filling!!!

am gettin a code 12 on the dash......anyone know what that means??

power steering aint right....keeps going stiff (so you'd think there werent any power) & the fluid reserv is presurising........sounds to me like a no-good pump!!!

got a heater matrix to sort (which I knew about)

looks like a few more nights in the workshop!!!!!

that would be fine if it were tightening at a predictable time.........i tried it this morning & you can lock to lock it about twice before it goes stiff......try steering with the motor switched off & thats what it feels like!

Any squealing when your steering? Not sure how the set up is on an XJ, but in my experience on my truck- steering going stiff and squeaking= pump broke rendering me fooked and steering going stiff easy stiff easy, box exploded rendering me fooked.

Yup. I know your pretty good mechanicly so you've probably tried this- jack front end up and turn steering with engine off, listen for any wierd noises coming from the box, although it will be stiff to turn it should be smooth, if so problem is more likly to be pump.

HI kd it had a brand new pump fitted by ryfield jeep in Aug 04, and we never had any problems with it stalling apart from in the winter when it is really cold and the engine had not warmed up.

KD, if it cuts out and wont restart, it could be the crank sensor.

I've had both Cam and Crank sensors go on mine :Hangman:

When the crank sensor went, it was a real bastard to start. :smt102

It cut out....I walked away....got the guys next door to recover it, they tried it & it started......then tried the fault code thing & nothing, not a fault in sight!!! Do ya reckon its the crank sensor on its way out??
