!981 CJ7 electrics
« on: April 04, 2015, 01:38:17 PM »

Just attempting to reinstall the electrics on the CJ and can't find relevent wiring diagrams anywhere. I've now got loads of info and diags from books and the web but non correspond to my bulkhead connector layout or colour codes. Specifics needed are connection to choke on carb and horn feed and earth from steering wheel. There is also a floating relay near the distributor which doesn't seem to have enough wires to it (5 pins with 2 red and 1 orange connected). Any experts out there? Its a 258 6 auto with carter carb. Another thing is there seems to be no guts in the rocker cover PCV valve. Anyone got a spare they don't want?

Along with NB's pick the one most appropriate. CJ wiring most likely will be unique to your truck

PCV valves are cheaper than cheap to buy http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Jeep-CJ5-7-8-PCV-Valve-33000887-1983-86-/231079690153?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item35cd6c3fa9

Assuming you have a RHD CJ Where is your bulkhead connector? Is it on the passenger side or is it on the drivers side towards the centre?

Thanks for the replies but I have all the diags shown and nothing resembles the wires leaving the bulkhead connector. The jeep is RHD and the connector is on drivers side near centre. Perhaps I should just try to trace each cable from origin to try to determine destination. Does anyone know what controls choke electrics (is it the second temp sender in the inlet manifold?
Thanks again for the help.

If its a 4.2 then the choke is fed from an oil pressure switch which is sat next to and Teeded off the oil pressure sender, which you will find in the block above the starter motor somewhere.
