alternator pulley?
« on: May 09, 2009, 01:23:56 PM »

dont know if any one could help, but,
i had a squeaky drive belt over the last two days, everything looked ok, just fitted new timing belt, etc two months ago,
then the battery light came on this morning,
looks like the bearings in the alternator pulley are shot, any one know if any one does these seperate for a denso alt?
dealers dont and the usual local motor factors cant get hold of one, had a quick look on Ebay etc... looks like gonna have to be new alternator!!!!!
ive taken it off and welded the outer part to the inner, so now its a fixed pulley, but not sure how long it'll last?

you need to look into maybe finding a local place that will refurb yours or i think you are gonna have to find a breaker with one to get the best price. i dont think you will get bearings for it.

It probably has a decoupling clutch in the alternator pulley. Chrysler don't seem to list a replacement, Try a local auto electrical specialist or get a secondhand alternator from a salvage yard.

yeah, its the actual 6 groove belt driven pulley which drives the alternator, it has a one way clutch/bearing, which i think is just there to reduce noise/vibrations and strain on the alternator etc.
i've tryed a few auto electric places with no joy, :?:
called a salvage yard too, they would only sell a complete alternator!

looks like the i'll just have too see how long my welding lasts, it's holding up fine, for now.
