The dates we have to choose from are:

4/5th May
11/12th May
18/19th May

All earlier weekends are either booked or too close to other events that the owner doesn't want to have the site over-damaged.

Can I have a show of people who can / can't do the dates above please. I have these dates provisionally held for 1 week.

May  :icon_super:  cool, that means we're not waking up with ice on the tent/grass/truck and getting scorched at the front and freezing our arses off round the campfire :003:

I'm flexible so count me in with the majority of the voters.   :greggmo:

It would be good if we could get an idea of numbers that will attend the event if it's bank holiday weekend (to get pricing right )so point people to this thread to show interest if you can. Thanks.

OK for any other than 4th-5th.

Got a Triathlon that weekend.

Having said that; the bank holiday would mean an extra nights camping for folks,

.........but also more traffic and increased likelihood of other commitments.

To get an idea of the site, what we can setup and possibly location, directions and other details check out last year's west harptree thread and definitely look at the aftermath thread - some good pics and vids there.

I'll develop more of plan and poll for ideas of what people want after we've got the booking sorted.

Thats because it is in effect a huge trench with tracks running up both sides.  In 2D that does not show.

What does everyone want? I am starting to formulate a plan.

Things I like and/or think I worked well previously:

- Trials, good for specatating and driving, a bit of competitive spirit but nothing taken seriously, maybe a few sections or just a reverse of the previous
- Punches, maybe not for all but they aren't too tricky to setup and give some people a challenge and opportunity to think, plan, then cock it up and winch.
- 'Maxi' trial / special stage: not timed or canes, just an interesting section taped off and the challenge being just to complete it. :steeringwheel:
- a Birty's Bonfire (obviously)  :jump_125:
- a few beers (even more obvious)  :icon_jook:
- award for the person who provides the most entertainment (best if it's due to unintentional carnage  :icon_twisted:)

Things that might be good too:
- place for RC cars
- mini-quiz where you have to gather clues from places on the site (in Jeeps or on foot, whatever you feel like), prize for winner. could be for non-drivers to provide something else to do?

Non of the above are compulsory and I'm sure there are other ideas - can you just give me an idea about what you want from the weekend please?

As long as we can blast that feckin rock out of the bottom of that bomb crater.....saw too many diffs/shafts catch that one... :003:

Punches....... bring it on  :icon_super:

Guys count me in for the weekend. But I'll be happy to also camp the Sunday night as it will mean a full day froading rather than packing up lunchtime on the Sunday.

I will 100% confirm but from discussions so far the site is ours from lunchtime Friday to Monday morning so people can camp Friday through to Monday if they want. We will also have two portaloos on site but not much else in the way of camping facilities.

Costs

Basic fees are:
£25 per day offroading
£5 per night camping

In order to get people confirmed and get some money in we can offer a slight discount for 'weekend' tickets purchased in advance:
£45 for the weekend offroading (no camping)
£50 for the weekend offroading with camping Fri & Sat nights included.

Pay via Birtys checkout (details coming shortly).

We will also setup another thread only for confirmed attendees, you can add your name if you are 100% confirmed whether you have paid in advance or not.

We often have the golf ball section on our punch hunts...

Six plastic cups around a small area, each team is given six golf balls, then either the driver or crew man put one ball in each cup, then back to the start, then back around and collect each golf ball, no one is allowed out of the truck and if a golf ball is dropped then a 30 second penalty, good fun...

I can bring cups and golf balls and more punches if you like? We have about 50/60.

Cheers Maf

Cool, glad people are looking forward to it. I've got plenty of punches, trials and other challenges to keep people entertained.

If anyone has a big gazebo / military tent or similar for sign-in and possible bad weather shelter duties that would be cool. Same goes for a big bbq, oil drum style - just to provide cooking space for people to do their own thing was my idea.

Payments and bookings up front are really appreciated and if anyone is thinking they might fancy turning up on Sat or Sun if they're free then it's totally cool but I would appreciate a heads-up so I can be aware that someone might be due. PM me if you'd rather let me know off the main thread. Same goes if anyone has to drop out.

Thanks for the help getting this off the ground and for supporting it and wanting to turn up  :greggmo:

For help with directions and also for those with trailers, see the site maps and entrance photo below. Best to approach from the south if bringing a trailer as the turn in is tight through the gate and to the left.

Okay, bit the bullet !!

Looked at the long range weather forcast and don't like what I see.
Clutch is not reliable
Steering iffy.
Crank seal leaking like buggery.

Providing I can get there and the truck let's me down in the process of, I'd be more
of a liability to others and my enjoyment would quickly go out of the window.

My own stupid fault I left it too late to sort the truck out.

On the upside : get ready for IOW and since I'm allowed two events so Cheapfest looms large.

Sorry guys.  (Gaz, attendees list amended)

Glad you can make it Rob.

A couple of queries for those that have been there before and have better memory than me:

1. Is there a water supply on site (drinking water)?

2. If you've driven a trailer there before do you have tips on routes to approach the site or a convenient place to drive past, turn around and come back towards the site from the south?

Everything else should be organised, just turn up from lunchtime Friday and set up camping stuff in the grass field. I'll be there mid afternoon if all goes to plan.

The trailer thing was at Warthog really, I know he had to drive past turn around and come back to site so he could make the turn into the gate. I just wondered how easy the turning around was.

I've pulled into a McDonalds before with 16ft bed trailer on and then had to turn around - not quite as simple as it sounds  :icon_redface:

Thanks for confirming no water on site, please note everyone.

The trailer thing was at Warthog really, I know he had to drive past turn around and come back to site so he could make the turn into the gate. I just wondered how easy the turning around was.

If you come from the Steep hill side. Just go past and turn into the Farmers gate 100yards past Site entrance. An irate Mut, is the only thing that will give you aggro....

Carnage so far, hippy has bust rear prop at around 6 o'clock this evening having once last go .....

Big Andy bust a front coil spring but that been welded up  :icon_winkle:

And the prize for the most graceful role a TJ on its side in slow motion in a big muddy puddle goes to James Bench..... TJ & driver all safe & sound, but very very muddy both inside & out.

Back tomorrow for some more  :icon_winkle:

Great weekend.  A big thank you is owed to James for organising the first Birtys event of the year and doing such a good job of it too (with a bit of help from Gaz I must add.)

Warthog and Donk did a top job of setting up the trials and getting folks tied up in knots, so much so one participant had to have a lie down half way round!

Great wheelin' (T'is a cracking site), unbeatable weather and top company.  Who could ask for more.  Here's a few pixs from the weekend.....

Mark, how did you get that effect on the pic of yours and Jezz's?

Used an App called "Instagram" Has some cool effects to apply to your photo's.

Makes them look like toy cars, very cool.

Cleaned it  :flag:
(http://i.imgur.com/LFh4vTD.jpg) (http://imgur.com/LFh4vTD)

No damage other than a saggy front wing but I'm sure that'll be easy enough to straighten out; new seats from Ezz were a steal and a lot easier than trying to clean the muck out of the sponge in the original (and the passengers seat was broken to start with).

I had a great time; cheers for organising and having me along. I'll try to get some disconnects for next time and stay upright.

Good job dude.  :greggmo:

Was good to have you along and I'm pleased you've not been put off by the experience.  Someone has to provide the entertainment at a Birtys event.  I'm just glad it didn't involve a trip to hospital this time round.
