Post by: BlueJay on May 12, 2005, 09:08:31 AM

Slindon holds open days every month as does their sister sit Grand Canyon http://www.4x4driving.co.uk/location.htm (http://www.4x4driving.co.uk/location.htm) I have done both sites as they are local to me and both are worth a visit.

JeepClub are heading to Grand Canyon in Aug http://www.jeepclub.co.uk/event.cfm?id=268 (http://www.jeepclub.co.uk/event.cfm?id=268) and has already been pointed out Slindon is being visited by J33P http://www.j33p.org/events.cfm?ID=111 (http://www.j33p.org/events.cfm?ID=111)

Slindon is a sandy site with 3 distinct areas: the bomb holes, nice and twisty with some steep climbs and drops; the arena, fairly flat with gullies dug out; and the outback, which is pretty boggy at the wrong times of year.  Only problem with Slindon is it eats brake shoes.

Grand Canyon is a huge disused quarry with everything from gentle areas for the less adventuruous to some real sphincter tighteners.  In the dry it is good fun lot more rocky than the usual sites down here, some photos from my last visit are here http://www.ofoto.co.uk/BrowsePhotos.jsp ... 3884917733 (http://www.ofoto.co.uk/BrowsePhotos.jsp?&collid=63884917733)

If you are thinking of coming down to one of the open days I will come along if I am free that weekend or if you tag along to one of the other Jeeping Clubs' events then I will probably get to meet you at last.  The difference in travelling time between the 2 sites is negligible from the West Midlands.

BlueJay keep an eye on the JeepClub forum for meets and events as some of us from the south get together for drinks at a pub in Hampshire or green laning in the area, we did the Surrey route from TOR late last year which was fun except for disgusted from surrey having a go at us for enjoying our legal right of way.  Only sites I know in the Surrey area are the Army ranges at Bordon.

Whilst mooching back through old copies of TOR I found a green lane run down in Surrey. We could look at combining green laning with a pub meet and a spot of camping?  :)

I have done the Surrey Green Lane route we started at a pub called the Duke of Wellington at E Horsley, it is about half way round the route and looked quite decent.  Surrey Council appeared to have their sh*t in one sock with a lot of the footpaths, bridlepaths and rights of way cleary signposted to prevent confusion.

Er,... I was only looking for a pub meet?

There used to be one in the Black Swan in Cobham but that seemed to have died a death (old jeep meets don't die they just fade away..)

how far are you away from Portsmouth?  The Pompey Posse and outlying counties get together for food, beers and chillin every now and then.  Must remind the guy who organises them to pull his finger out of his arse.  Oh its me, no wonder typing is slow with only one hand

Be nice to combine it with a day's laning or playing.... It's about 100 miles each way for me.... Not worth it for a pub meet. but a days laning/playing then a meet....
