Jeep Grand Cherokee 2.7 CRD black smoke on hard acceleration
« on: January 17, 2019, 09:56:11 PM »

Hi all I have the above problem! What’s more interesting is the oil in the pipe working between the turbo and the intake manifold, think the smoke is an air leak and so incorrect combination, but the oils is an odd one...

Any thoughts

Black smoke on hard acceleration especially after a period in traffic is I understand typical of the Merc 5 cylinder engine mine does it but if you accelerate a second time a few minutes later then all is ok.

As regards oil in the pipework depending on the amount I think this is the turbo seals leaking oil. You will normally get oil consumption when this happens - starts off low then get alarmingly high. This could of course also explain excess oil on acceleration.

Other on here should know for sure just my observations.

There are a number of reasons why you can get the black smoke on acceleration...dirty, or partially blocked air filter...faulty, or dirty MAF,...incorrect grade of fuel...faulty injectors...fuel pump not correctly set and the list goes on. Start with the simple stuff first and work your way up...just ensure the motor is heating up properly before you do anything...a cold diesel will almost always over fuel itself.

As identified by Mac, the oil in the pipework is down to the turbo seals...dirty job to rectify, but not impossible. Last time I had this problem, I just sourced a company which specialises and had an exchange unit fitted...simple job and not all that expensive.
