Heavy Duty Floor Mats
« on: May 26, 2020, 04:45:13 PM »

Can anyone recommend decent floor mats for an XJ, and where to get them from?
All the stuff I can find in the UK is generally "universal" (i.e. don't fit anything).

Cheers.

Might be worth giving them a call, I had them in both the XJ & TJ. I think the shape for each footwell is the same regardless of which side the steering wheel is.

IIRC they are marked on the liners drivers / passenger side, but they still fit RHD, the foot well shape is the same. Gotta be worth a call to confirm / deny :icon_winkle:

Agreed - I have sent them an email to find out exactly what is required to get them to fit. I also note they sell the Rugged Ridge mats as well, which is what triggered my desire.

Seems like a plan mate, from memory, there is nothing to do to make them fit other than take them out of the packaging  :icon_winkle:

No personal experience of the rugged ridge ones, good luck with whatever you get  :icon_winkle:

I'd just replied to that before even seeing your comment!  :hysterical:

Like Gaz said, I think Husky liners do fit but you'll have to modify them to work around the driver's footrest, as it's just bolted in rather than being part of the floor stamping. My parents both have them in their TJ and ZJ, and the ZJ ones also needed modifiying to fit with the foot rest.

I had a pair of OEM Jeep heavy duty slush mats for a few years. They were great, but because they were LHD the heel pad was on the passenger side my heel wore right through them pretty quickly!

I don't really think there's anything available designed specially for RHD, so trimming will be the only way forwards, unless you can find something used. I managed to find a set like the ones pictured which fit perfectly.

Edit: I've just noticed that your XJ is a TD. Does that still have a footrest on the left side of the footwell? I have a feeling manual ones don't have it.
If that's the case, you might well not have to do any trimming at all  8-)

I use conveyor belt material that's been cut to size. Mines from aircraft baggage belt loaders. My mats have been in for over a decade and still show no noticeable wear in the heel area. I can't think of any mats that would outlast them.

I'm happy to test if you want to make a set for me  :icon_biggrin:

Cheers Bryn. I'm pretty sure there isn't a foot rest in mine. If that's the only area that would require trimming, then I should be happy. I'm just waiting for Jeepey to get back to me and confirm if this is the case. I don't want to spend well over £200 on mats, and then have to butcher them!

Unfortunately, I'm short of a couple of things. Namely, conveyor belt material, and an XJ for making mats that would fit.

I had LHD husky mats in mine - just a notch needed to get them to sit flat.

Have just moved the front ones to my Commander - they fit OK - and still going strong after 12 years (and I got them second hand lol)
