if you need the help of the dastards you only have to ask. the first thing is to fit your carb is,nt it? what is the problem apart from some bolts that you told me about? you must remember you will have lost a certain amount of go because you are on 33,s on yer standard gears, but if it dont run right that wont help.

Do I detect a common theme here.

CJ7's not running right, needs a  new carb, all sounds rather familiar.

Post by: Anonymous on February 18, 2005, 06:51:27 PM
i have the carb to go on the jeep.A nice two barrel weber, im just a few bits missing and because it was second hand no instructions.
But that is just the start of the kist of jobs i need to do to get it running right, but because i was a late developer wjen it comes to mechanics i dont have a lot of knowledge to do the jobs myself. So it must all wait till i have the funds, so its going to take a while.

yeh but when he fits his carb he might  have as many bits left over
Title:
Post by: elvis on March 03, 2005, 09:19:32 PM
is there a problem why you cant fit this part it sounds like a big problem the carb is the small thing on top of the engine  is that correct
Title:
Post by: Anonymous on March 05, 2005, 01:02:38 AM
My biggest problem is i dont have a drive or garage to carry out the work, and with the weather the way it is i am unable to do the work on either the carb or any of the other jobs.So it stays out side the house till the weather is better.

You know me so well Bubba. :smt017

Mr. Muscle, have you fitted your new carb yet?

Let's try to get as many CJ's out to the Ribbesford meeting as possible!
Title:
Post by: Anonymous on March 20, 2005, 03:16:28 PM
Just changed the front shocks on my cj.But took a look at the carb and decided to leave it for another day.Dont think i will have it done for the 4x4 show or Ribbsford.Sorry folks.I still have the exhaust to order and change and the oil leak to do.Time and know how is not on my side
Title:
Post by: greggmo on March 21, 2005, 01:39:30 AM
whats wrong with your exaust muscle? can we not weld it? have you had a go at the carb? you need to start by getting the old one off and then offer the new one up then you will know what you need to do. i know you have a couple of bits missing but they can be sorted when its all together cant they? 8)
Title:
Post by: Anonymous on March 21, 2005, 01:53:28 AM
Im no expert as you all know but i think the exhaust is behond repair. As for the carb all i am missing is a plate that goes on the linkage,it as five holes drilled in it.Need to make one but am waiting for darkys to arrive so i can make a copy. Then i need to have a go at fitting it ( if i have the balls, no comments about balls please ).Im running out of weekends afraid.
Title:
Post by: Bubba on March 21, 2005, 07:20:41 AM
has darky done anything about his front axel bits yet
Title:
Post by: Anonymous on March 21, 2005, 06:59:43 PM
No bubba i have not got the front diff sorted yet :( I do not think that i will have it done for ribbsford as it will probably take me a whole weekend and as i have to do it on my dads drive it will have to wait untill i have better weather.
Title:
Post by: Bubba on March 21, 2005, 11:30:01 PM
well darky old pal it aint gonna heal on its own a full diff rebuild kit is 79 dollars from 4wd might be a good starting point and maybe you and andy can get together and compare bits when your carb bits arive do you know how long it will take to come then maybe we can make up anything he is short of andy is letting his jeep intimidate him i think shoe it who is boss andy
Title:
Post by: Anonymous on March 22, 2005, 12:44:59 AM
Thanks for the words of wisdom bubba, you might be right.I just dont want to matter the problems worse.I couldn't cope with anymore repairs.

But shit happens and i have to live with it. :banghead:
Title:
Post by: Bubba on March 22, 2005, 07:21:08 AM
so will you both still be going to this show we do still need a cj7 for this event or is darky still takin his as the front diff is not a problem on the road in 2wd

Title:
Post by: Anonymous on April 07, 2005, 06:35:36 PM
The story of my weber carb continues.

Got all the little bits i needed to fit the caarb today, even got the plate made for the linkage. Then spent 5 hours and quarter of a tank of petrol trying to find a small ball joint bolt ( looks like a bleed nipple ) for the linkage to the cable.Tried every car spares and carb supplier in the area.No one could supply me with the part, in the end a friend of my dads who is very good a lathe made me one.

Trouble is i dont have the time now to fit the fucking thing as i am helping Darky this weekend to change his front axle if the weather is ok.looks like i wont be at ribbsford next week.sorry folks.
Title:
Post by: greggmo on April 07, 2005, 08:41:33 PM
you will be at ribbesford young man. just get yer ass in gear. if night rider starts stripping his down you will have it done before ya know it mate. 8)

Title:
Post by: Anonymous on April 11, 2005, 10:33:58 PM
First of all i would like to thank Mr Muscle, Paul and Bubba for all of there help.
The change whent quite smoth apart from a couple of minor problems that where quickly solved. Then when we came to put the brake caliper back on we found that it was to small for the new axle. So i had to go round on Sunday and change the calipers over. Job done =D>
Once again thanks lads  :smt023
Title:
Post by: Anonymous on April 12, 2005, 01:37:32 AM

Title:
Post by: Anonymous on April 23, 2005, 09:07:17 AM
Finally put the weber carb on last night, and a little problem getting the old threaded bolts out of the manofold.Just got to replace a piece of hose and attach the fuel line and its done.

Lets hope it doesn't need tuning because thats were i will be f**ked.
Title:

Title:
Post by: MK1 on April 23, 2005, 12:57:34 PM
I bought a rebuild kit from the USA for mine.

When it came there was so many small parts, seals, washers etc. that I bottled it and sent it for a proffesional rebuild.

Webers can be total bastards to set up.
Title:
Post by: Anonymous on April 23, 2005, 06:45:30 PM
Got the carb running. Its ticking over at 2000rpm, had a look and i think the linkage isn't returning fully when i take my foot of the gas.But if i do it manualy the rpm's drop to 900, which is about right ( please correct me bubba if i am wrong)I think i need to adjust the linkage rod down to the cable, to make it longer.

If anyone else as any advise let me know.
Title:
Post by: Bubba on April 23, 2005, 07:36:09 PM
yup i think you will have enough adjustment
