Dana 44 heavy duty/alloy shafts

Still hankerin after 37's on the Bastard, but not overly hopeful of chasing down cheap D60/70 or other upgrade axles, so thinkin about retaining the D44's and replacin the shafts with alloy shafts or heavy duty Dutchman shafts: anyone been this route? any views? any advice?

Replacing the shafts will be as expensive as buying that Left drop(NOT) Dodge Dana 60...........from e-bay

If you go Dutchman or Warn you will still have the Dana 44 UJs that are the same as the Dana 30 TJ ones... that is the weak link
and then you will want upgrade the UJs at $100 each side............or more

But it still wont be as strong as a Dana 60

Remember my breakage at CF...... the shafts were Warn and survived...... the UJ was a spicer (not the cheaper type) it didn't survive!!!!!

That was on 35s.... But if you upgrade the lot, on your 44 it will be much moolar and when it goes bang the bling UJ will take out the stub and main shaft ears of your expensive shafts and ........tears before bedtime :010:

Go on go on go on you know you want to........ You'll also get bigger brakes as well for freeeee :icon_biggrin: :icon_super:

well thats the sorta advice i wanted, personal experience

cant find any d60 on ebay tho?

did try and find that seller that was knockin out sets for £895, believe IOM got himself a pair?

Too expensive and has drum brakes so that will be another £400gbp to put dies brakes on.

shame on the D70's coz they only 4.10, dont really mind drum at the moment as they gonna be an upgrade drum over what is currently on, and he is open to offers, and they are jeep

They will be Dodge - I will sell the D70 D80 axles for what I payed if it helps, don't have a use for them now the old faithful has gone - pumpkin is the wrong side for you so a D300 flip is required.

Seriously.............way to go... you get axle ratios that match and all the bits that are a bear to find like U-bolts hoses etc...... not really a hassle just time and money and e-mails to replace what you get for free if you get a complete hulk. :icon_super:

Remember that 8 lug wheel/tyre on eBay that turned into a J10 :017:

Half ton axles, similar strength to D44s.

Worthless to sell on eBlagg but worth a good £200-£300 if you sell them right (like pistonheads, difflock, classic yank, or whatever)

You need 1 ton axles off a HD pickup mate

I was lucky BD I'd known the vehicle and owner since 2002 and had always kept an eye on it............. It came off the road in 2005 after passing an MOT.....??? Engine was tired..................So when I couldn't find a left drop Iwent with the complete K30............
Sold all my wheels and bits to him and we exchanged axles............ no cash exchange................ :icon_biggrin:or should that be :icon_sad:
Back on my head again spraying bits satin black...........you might approve :icon_super:

the 70/70 combo is winnin at the mo, altho the gearin still puts me where i am, at least when i wanna regear it wont be potentially throwin money away

i am however waitin to be told i am numpty coz 70/70 ....... yadadadada ..........

im not overly hopeful on findin a chevy, and i can always sell the 44's

and lastly, goofbay says he accepts a fair old % off on any offers
