Tuning
« on: March 28, 2006, 12:25:25 PM »

In the process of talking to a guy at http://www.chippeduk.com/ based in Hoddesdon.
I'm looking at getting a remapping done on the ecu and also they do a  service where can drive around and they tune it ont he go, though this was a  good idea as I have a different exhaust and full K&N should tweek up better than a stock remap.

Anyone had this done before and any comments?

edit... Was thinking, I'll be getting it serviced soon and a complete oil swap to synthetics, would it be worth waiting till after the service?

Good one mate .... seriously though IMHO the remapping will not give you any noticable gain on your Jeep, there are loads of threads on the US forums regarding this and the consensus seems to be that Jeep got it right first time round

I'll have a good read around then before I dive in, I'll also see if they can give me the promise of a refund if I notice no difference if I do go ahead.

I just assumed that it would be an improvement...oh well, thats why we ask :)

leave it alone mate, its got more power than you will ever need!!!!

the only power mod i would consider is a throttle body spacer!

With an exhaust and air cleaner upgrade, the engine breathes a bit better, and the engine controller will use the information from the combination of MAP, Throttle and O2 sensors to adjust the fuelling to suit without any further mods. You can probably remap and gain a little more power, but the controller will ultimateley only allow as much fuel into the engine as it needs to achieve a clean burn as indicated by the oxygen sensor. Adustments to the ignition advance may move the power band up the rev range slightly using this method, but the engine is tuned for low speed torque and that's what you want for offroading. You only really gain from remapping a Jeep controller once you've done some pretty major mods to the engine which take the fuel requirements way above normal operating parameters, otherwise you risk wasting a lot of fuel and money for little gain.

Just my 10p worth.

Throttle body spacers do work on some vehicles, take my dodge durango for instance. Had the 4.7l V8, the poweraid spacer made more of a difference than the k&n intake and the flowmaster exhaust put together! But take a 3.8 dodge motor in the pickups and the spacer makes a wistling noise and gives you no power. Check out the following:

and

Actually the whole site is worth reading, guy does have alot of good ideas and info, even if he is an Aussie!!
