i noticed a load of oil under my tj the other day, on closer inspection everywhere was dry apart from the damper which was covered in oil, is it common for these parts to fail or should i be looking elsewhere for the problem. when i say loads of oil i meant a thin covering of the gravel like somethin had exploded

They do leak when they are old. Replacements aren't expensive.

Get a replacement from Procomp explorer for £30, better than the OEM one & cheaper. Yet not so big that is smashes itself up on the steering tie bar (as per some of the US aftermarket ones.)

i ve not long fitted a BDS steering damper on my TJ and it works just fine. and it goes in the same place as the old 1

Look in the suppliers as there is a guy at "Geared to go" i bought all my Procomp stuff off of.A replacement Procomp ES2000 damper is £30 or a complete kit is £32 for a Gabriel one or £52 for the procomp one which is the one i went for.Looks very substantial too compared to the old one i took off.

It wasn't fkuked, it is a skyjacker one and is only a couple of months old and had seen no real action. I did notice the lower trackbar bush is donald but I have a new one on the way.

Because they're fitted for a reason. Every thing may be fine at the mo, but what happens as everything starts to wear a bit? Or a weight comes of a wheel. Maybe you don't need them off road at low speeds, but I reckon it's better safe than sorry if you do a fair amount of road miles in ya truck. Unless you drive everywhere at 20mph.

I took it off because as I lifted the suspenssion the axle moved back and the drag link was catching the bolt on the damper,,,,,,so I put a skyjacker damper kit on and the only place it would fit was below the steering arm right in front of the diff so any big rocks or anything hard and the damper would be the first thing to bite the dust......so going froadin yesterday I took the damper off (cause I am going to fit it to Vikki's truck anyway) so it didnt get damaged, I have ordered a procomp one and trackbar bushes anyway and have fitted new lower front control arms so as everything at the front sits where it should now.

droppin off the broken bits to fourth auto today so i`ll see what they say. i`ll tell themn about prop services and your offer for gettin cheaper parts..

Prop shaft services today, gave them a Hilux prop with a double cardan joint to be shortened to fit Vikki's zuk, all done cleaned freshly painted and balanced for £40.00.
