So, I think I need to bring my brakes in to the 21st century. I have seen swaps for ZJ parts, but as I understand it, this will remove my ABS, which I am not prepared to do. I already have improved front brake disks and pads from EBC, but I think I need something beefier. What options do I have?

Bigger servo and master cylinder from Master Power Brakes....
My YJ would not get an MOT with 35s until I did the swap.....and then it would lock them.....
Not cheap but effective.

Cheers Wildwood, I looked at their website, but it doesn’t list the XJ

WJ front brake conversion. Not a super simple bolt on but loads of people have done it and can guide you through the process.

Also make sure the rear drums are adjusted up correctly. It makes a small difference.

Thanks James, I'll look at the WJ options. I don't think I want to be swapping out axles, knuckles, etc., but it does look like a beefier servo etc. is the quickest way forward.

EBC green supreme pads and some disks will make a HUGE difference in stopping power. Made my XJ with 35" tyres stop better than when on standard size tyres and standard pads

I have the Vanco big brake kit on my TJ. Cost about £1K imported from the US. It uses modified knuckles which mount Ford Explorer twin 48mm calipers and black magic pads. The kit also uses Ford Explorer discs which requires the lip of the hub flange grinding slightly.
Blaine, who developed the kit found the best pads for stock brakes were EBC Yellowstuff, before he eventually tested the blackmagic pads and found them to be better.

I have EBC disks and pads fitted already, although will probably upgrade to Yellowstuff when I next change the pads
