Title: '99 XJ engine cutting out (HELP PLEASE)
Post by: AmberOne on January 05, 2007, 09:33:10 AM
Hi folks, first of all, belated New Year greetings to all.
Now down to the problem, I run a 1999 XJ TD Sport, on occasions if I lift off the accelerator to slow down or change down a gear, the engine dies!  This does not happen all the time, I can drive for 200+ miles, no problem, leave the house to do a short run, it happens maybe once or twice in 5 miles........
If I switch off the ignition and restart the engine all seems to be OK.
Sorry to be a pain, but any ideas would save me from the ear bashing I get from the missus when it happens to her.....
Thanks in anticipation.

I'd advise you to pick up the local Yellow pages and find a local Bosch diesel specialist. The fly by wire system on these is very difficult to diagnose intermittant faults on, so if there isn't anything obvious like loose wiring or fuel leaks leave it to them.

That's gonna be expensive.

Check your filters and for air leaks as well.

Thanks guys, will check in with local diesel workshop and get them to look at it. Though it might have been something simple, but as usual no luck for me......
