Title: 04 WJ Solenoid Question
Post by: gardm1 on March 20, 2008, 12:00:43 PM
Hi all, just got my self an 04 Grand Cherokee Ltd after years of Land Rover ownership, I've had it for about a month now I'm really pleased with it. It seems (touch wood) to be a great 4X4. I have a noob query that may have an obvious answer but please bear with me.

When the WJ stops running there is a buzzing noise that continues for about a minute after, first of all I thought it was coolant leaking somewhere, but a nose under the bonnet narrowed it down to a small black box that sits on the left of the engine bay in between the air filter and the turbo. It has been suggested that it could be either the wastegate solenoid or boost pressure solenoid.

Can anybody confirm this? and is this 'running on' normal operation or is it bust? If bust can you replace yourself or is it a garage job?

Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks

I have one on mine too! always wondered what its for.

What is it? and Whats it for? It makes a noise when first started and occasionally whilst engine is going then runs on after engine has stopped.
