Title: £800-900 to spend on lift and tyres for a WJ
Post by: jgsmuzzy on July 24, 2008, 10:38:57 PM
Evening, it is bonus time soon, so I have a bit to spend on the car.  I would like AT tyres and a 2" lift.  I am having trouble locating bits, and am unsure what tyres I could use after the lift.  Currently the car has 235 65 R17 tyres.  Anyone have any ideas?  Am I being realistic with my budget?

Any help most welcome.

Thanks

James

Possibly over..

Check out Rubicon Express for the lift or 4WD..much rated over here or LLama 4x4 (postshere does Rough County lifts )

Cost realistic...but could be well cheaper...

Have a look at http://www.kevinsoffroad.com/wj/wj_25kit.html (http://www.kevinsoffroad.com/wj/wj_25kit.html)

I have bought from KOR a couple of times. Good guy to deal with and no hassles shipping to UK.

Right,

I have gone off the lift idea, so am just going to get new tyres.  Could anyone tell me whether I can fit bigger tyres, or will there be a clearance issue?  If I can, what size could I go up to?

Many thanks in advance.

James

Fit a 2 inch budget lift and go up 1 tyre size.

Hi mate, I want to do the lift (now got a 2" BB to fit) then bigger tyres, want to fit some Cooper MT's, I also have the 235 65 17's and need to know what size I can fit, been told that 31" is the biggest I can go to but don't understand the sizing, is that a 31x9.5, 31x10.5 ?? or whats the metric size? can any one help :-)

eer, yes but no. WJs run a 29.5 / 30in tyre as standard. With a 2 in lift you can get a 31" on no problem (not sure of the metric size) and depending on the rear of the front wheel arch & lift you may get a 235-85-16 (mine did with some playing with a high lift jack when considering lifting it, needs to be a genuine 2" lift though)

If you put 31" tyres on youll screw the gearing up no end especially if its going to have a lot of road use, stick to a 29-30 " tyre.....with 31" tyres on mine gears down at 70mph on the motorway if you get to a slight hill and it hammers the mpg :-D

James from the wheels on your WJ it looks like a "Overland" same as mine with the "High Output" motor, did you have the LPG fitted? any info you can let me have?  :-)

I have the Overland wheels, but the Ltd car!  Not too sure why it has the 17's on it, but there you go.  I did not have the LPG fitted, it was there when I brought the car.  Only problem i have had was a failed vapouriser, all fixed now though.

Thanks for the advice guys.  Am I right in thinking that a 30x9.5 would be a 235 70 R17 or 245 65 R17?

Many thanks

James

235/70R17 is 30" tall and 9.25" wide.
245/65R17 is 30" tall and 9.65" wide.

Not much in it, I'd go for the cheaper one.

After fitting a 2" lift I want to go up a size from 235 65 17  (30”yes)? to a 31”  so what size would I want to go for?

Thinking a set of Cooper Discovery STT’s full MT’s, any one had a set, are they ok?  :-?

I have gone for a set of Kumho KL78's.  Decent price, and the reviews on tirerack USA are really good.  I am sure they will be fine!  Conti Cross AT's we available, as were Toyo Open Country's for the 17", but no-one I tried had stock, and Conti did not even have a production date for the next run.
