Guys just wondering what other engines would fit on to a the cherokee's manual gearbox?
My engine is half dead and just wondered if there were any alternatives? what about a small v8 or another better diesel engine or maybe the 4.0 straight six?

any input would be great thanks guys

Gareth.

.........or if you don't want an auto, buy a 4.0, use the diesel transmission to convert it to manual, and sell the rest of the bits.

i've heard of the vw td5 being fitted but it's not a simple job. sorry no links or web addy's. small v8's can get a bit tight with fitting. sit the 4ltr in but make sure you have the relevant ecu's etc and as he says sell what you take off.

By far the least hassle is to fit the manual transmission from your diesel into another XJ born with a 4.0. Also if you fit the 3.73 axles from the diesel the gearing is ideal for the 4.0 with manual tranny if you fit 31" tyres.
