Mystery dash light...
« on: January 19, 2013, 11:17:00 AM »

...OK it's a Commander but I wondered if the same in any other models - it's a red lightening flash between 2 lines. Book says it's a warning for the fly by wire throttle on the V8 Hemi but we have the V6 weasel which it doesn't mention at all. Any ideas? It's intermittent, about every other start.

Failing that does anyone know a good Commander forum?

TIA

Does the key trick work on Commanders? I figure they'll be a code stored to tell you what the problem is. I see no mention of it being only for hemi engines in the owners manual I found. http://109.87.33.216/manuals/auto/jeep/24.pdf

Thanks for that, I'm guessing it's the American manual and they only offered the Hemi there as my UK/SA manual says it only applies to the V8. It's number 23 in the manual you linked BTW.

I realise the manual is a US one but I looked for engine references and it covers 3.7L plus two larger engines, and didn't mention any engine size distinction regards that symbol.  :017:

See if you can get faults codes as it will be a big help. I can read mine from my 3.0 CRD Grand Cherokee using a cheapo ELM327 OBDII bluetooth interface from eBay and fee OBDII apps on my android tablet.

I'll check it out or see if I can beg, borrow or steal one from a local member.  :greggmo:

Just to add that there doesn't seem to be any effect whatsoever, and it's intermittent, it's just annoying not knowing. I registered on a specific US forum so I'll see if I get any joy there as well.

For forum help try Ausjeepoffroad. They have the same models as us in Oz so can be very helpful with CRD advice.

Whereabouts are you? If nearby I could scan for codes quickly (I live in South Northants and work all across Thames Valley area)
