1998 GC Ltd Handbrake
« on: April 05, 2015, 03:42:23 PM »

OK Folks.
Sorry if this has been covered before but I cant seem to find what I need.

Right now for the problem.
I have changed the discs, Pads & Brake shoes. The handbrake holds like a goodun in reverse but is next to useless going forward.
Is there anything obvious that I'm missing?
I have heard that there is a primary shoe. But when I checked all the shoes look identical.
Anyone else had this problem and can shed any light on what I need to do will be greatly appreciated.

I don't usually use the handbrake I just leave it in Park. But I'm sure the MOT guy will have different thoughts.

Thanks in advance

Derek

I have adjusted them as best I can.
Everything I have read says to spin the wheels until the brakes just bind and the slacken them off....
As we all know...... You can't spin the wheels on a GC. So I have done the best I can.
It seems strange how they hold great going in reverse, but not going forward......

Hi delboy. I can't answer your question but I know a man who can. Whenever I have a a problem beyond my ability to correct, I take the Jeep to Peak Jeep in Chesterfield. Same county as you so hopefully not too far away. You will get a very honest opinion and a quote to put things right. HTH.

No I didn't.
Just had another go at them this morning.
Stripped them down, gave them a good clean and reversed the way I had them installed.
Did the adjustments again.
And guess what?
Exactly the same...  :017:
It will hold up to 2000RPM in reverse but it's as if it is not even applied going forward.

A real head scratcher....
