XJ 4.0 engines troubles.
« on: April 24, 2013, 09:03:55 PM »

My brother is experiencing soon engine problems with his XJ

Been to a garage today and they seem to think its the head gasket, but I'm not convinced.

After the cold weather we had, he started the jeep one morning and it started then cut out completely. He had the rev the car quite hard the keep it turning over. After closer inspection the coolant had ice blocks in it.

I cleared the ice and flushed out old coolant with warm water and replaced with new.

It starts fine now but ever since it seems to be miss firing at around 1500 rpm?

Any ideas guys?

Cheers

Ice is never a good sign in an engine cooling system, can cause lots of internal damage due to expansion, now the water has been replaced any smell of fuel in the water? Or milky substance in the oil, possible white smoke from the exhaust? Do a leak down test on the engine before replacing the headgasket
