Oh No! Not another XJ Immobiliser/Alarm Topic!
« on: January 26, 2021, 05:25:01 PM »

Hello All,

So, mindful that the road to enlightenment in the subject of understanding of Jeep immobilisation is a long and tortuous one (we have done much research!), I bring you the following:

Me and my young apprentice (son - 15 years old) have acquired an early (1995) 4.0 XJ.  It's in generally good nick, and the plan is to bring it slowly back to the standard to completeness and mechanical reliability that it deserves.
So far, he's sorted out the oil pressure indication problems, done some interior work, fixed the locking, done the boot lid gas struts, fixed the transfer box shift linkage and greased the various parts of the drivetrain/suspension.  New LH mirror and then harmonic balancer and front crank oil seal are next.

One area that we're pondering for the future is the immobiliser.  Here's what we know:

]If the battery is disconnected the key fob must be pressed, then the 'valet' button has to be pressed.
This leaves the system in permanent 'valet' mode and all unlocking is done with the key from then onwards.  Locking is done by locking from inside and shutting the door.
The siren under the bonnet has been disconnected.

From what we've found, we believe that the early XJ (front doors with quarter light glass) don't have the May and Scofield system that was installed at the point of importation in the UK.

So, the question is this - has anybody seen a system that looks like this, and does anybody have any info on it?
We'd either like to get it back so it locks on the fob (and get a backup fob); or remove the whole shebang.

Sorry mate, no idea personally, although I'm sure a knowledgable person will pop along soon.
If it were mine, I'd rip the whole lot out, and start again, if you wanted to keep it alarmed.

Thinking about it!  But, having read some of the horror stories about the May and Scofield system, and some vehicles being rendered scrap because of it, we're approaching it VERY carefully!

Hence the first step - identify what we've got !! (Hopefully!) :icon_biggrin:

Do you know where the brains of the alarm system are located? If you can find it and identify the wire colours going to it you should be able to determine if it's vin coded like the M&S units fitted to later models. I doubt it is for that age of alarm, but if it is linked to the VIN it would need to be tapped into either the CCD bus or SCI circuits. The CCD wires are a twisted pair, violet/brown and white/black wires. The SCI transmit wire is pink the receive wire is light green.

The wires at the box might not match the wire colours that are tapped though so wire tracing might well be required. If you can get a model number off the unit that might help with finding a wiring diagram for the unit which would tell you what wires are used. That would also help in wiring a replacement alarm in as you'd have the wires you need in one location.

That's good intel - we'll take a look once I get it in the workshop.

The boy can investigate while I change the exhaust manifold and prep the doors/A pillars for hinge repair.

Workshop currently occupied by my niece's sick VW. Only got the injection pump rebuild to finish, then it'll be gone and we can crack on with the XJ.  :greggmo:

my TJ alarm / immobilizer was playing up, Phil a jeep non dealer specialist removed it very easily, let me know if you need his details.
