Title: Cherokee laner, lift kit and 33's fitted.....
Post by: Green Jeep on October 11, 2014, 04:30:18 AM
Work has begun....

Fitted rubicon 3.5" lift kit.... well for the time I'm running 4" on the front whilst I wait for the front end kit to be power coated... which includes, flexi front arms, HD steering bar and extended anti roll bar links... All picked up including newish shocks second hand from this site, thanks guys  :icon_super:

Mansize spring compressor makes light work of fitting big springs, awesome piece of kit...

Front brake pipes extended by moving and welding brkt in lower place (not shown here)...

Borrowed it from work... snap on, not cheap, £250, (maybe try hire shops?) awesome though made the job a breeze, which is handy as I will be doing it all again when the flexi arms, HD steering bar and 3.5" springs return from power coat  :icon_biggrin: :icon_super:

Haha, well I have owned this XJ for six months... Damage has started, had the option of gentle style on special section, or beat everyone's else time by almost halving it...

No plans for pick up conversion, want to keep it complete for laning trips further away and carrying Indian canoe...

Next up is flexi front arms, banks performance exhaust and manifold swap...

 :jpshakehead: :jpshakehead:

Yeah not much strength in the front panel, happened whilst backing down a slippy side ways steep slope that pushed the Jeep down the side of the little tree and the angle was right for it all to happen.... had to lever of the tree and break the headlamp free.... duct tape restored the Jeep though haha....

Do you still have the towbar you've taken off? I wouldn't mind one on the ZJ and heard they were interchangeable?

Yeah it's coming on nice... you should check out the CLCC events, was down in deepest darkest kernow yesterday...

Sorry... still using the bracket as a recovery point... just removed the towball and extention piece so the departure angle of the Jeep is better.... plus also I can quickly pop the ball back on if I need to tow the canoe on its trailer....

Finally got the LPG sorted, lpg ecu had lost all its parameters, (was asked if it's been struck by lighting lol) now fully working, tuned, even the lpg gauge is working again... Just needed the ecu reprogrammed.

If anyone is in Cornwall needing LPG help, then Chris is the man to see.... LPG Autos Camelford Station, 07989988060
PL32 9TX

Next event on Sunday is down the far end of Kernow, so pleased as now I have range... plus also the cruise started working again, Jeep running better than on petrol, happy days....

Will no doubt pick up some more dents.... hopefully a trophy as well...

I did an off roading course many years ago and matey asked if I was prepared to use the bodywork to get through tight area's.... think we all know the answer to that...

I have now had to start adding dents on top of previous ones haha...  :icon_super:

Seems that's been the case for a few years Bazz.

Bumped into some Lard rover people about 4 years ago and they were buying Range Rovers and Discos and driving them out to your part of the world to triple their money.

Don't know how re- reg and the fact it's RHD would affect things but ......that's the story they gave me???

Utility type vehicles of this size are very thin on the ground here Jez...4wd versions are gobbled up before they hit the ground!
You might see the odd Hilux or Izuzu, but the most common is a Niva which has had the angle grinder treatment and a wooden tray stuck in the back!!

If you catch the licence guys in a good mood (or your 'gift' is big enough), having them registered here is no problem.

Not difficult or expensive to do, surprised no one is doing these mods if demand is there?

Latest mods, snapped the chassis by the steering box; well the steering box was holding the chassis together and then the bolts snapped...

So thick angle over the area, then the same on the other leg and braced with box and 45 degree cut lengths to make it all strong and firm again...

Managed another first place on Sunday, best result ever with 1000 points and five filled cards....

Meanwhile the rear continues to pick up (see what I did there, haha) dents...

Now fitted STT pro's and we tested them at the weekend... Very pleased, excellent road manners and not noisy, very good off road, a good test was pulling away on a side slope whilst towing a broken down truck up hill across grass, tyres held nicely and no wheel spin. During the day various other surfaces and the previous evening...

Got some more trophies, 1st for the punch hunt... 3rd for the night stage; two high speed runs around the farm/quarry/woods and a waffle board challenge, excellent result since no classes and we where up against the 'big boys' trucks...

Well, we did it, First place for the 12 month series, managed 9 out of 11 first places, a lot of hard work, time and effort. Jeep has taken a fair bit of punishment; now down to just two bits of glass from the original ten... Seen lots of great new sites in Cornwall and looking forward to next season although we wont be doing as many events and getting back to laning, which we have been doing again recently.

More work on the Steering box issues....

Had a bracket made up for the steering box using spacers at 11mm and a piece of 6mm steel, used the crappy alloy bracket as a template, steering box threads have been drilled and re tapped to 12mm thread so that heavy duty bolts can be used and easier to source from the local parts supplier.

Replaced N/S ball joints and O/S track rod end... as ever all last minute.com for the event on Sunday.

Yeah snapped that with our bare hands, also the plate will spread the strain on the inner chassis rail rather than have three points...

Cut the damaged sill out and fit 80mm box (6mm thick) so that hi lift can jack up and avoid rock damage without making the Jeep wider or lower...

Competed again last weekend and another first, worked hard as the site was tough and lots of tree stumps as the power company had napalmed a massive strip either side of the power lines, used a mattock and axe to stop the waffles slipping down a side slope, love coming up with new idea's! Really pleased with the STT Pro's, imho the best tyre for on road and amazing off road, run them at 10psi.

Cheeky vid....
