Title: Changes
Post by: jay140285 on December 16, 2011, 11:31:36 AM
There seems have have been a few changes between 11 and 11.30 this morning?
Title: forum layout changes
Post by: birty on December 16, 2011, 11:37:41 AM
you will notice the forum now looks a bit tidier. a few boards have been merged but rest assured NO POSTS HAVE BEEN LOST.

there may be a few smaller changes to come but the bulk has been done now and hopefully you will now find the forum a bit easier to browse

Looks good mate

Main thing im not sure about is the combining of for 'sale & wanted' with 'baywatch' - we have a load of fairly random posts in baywatch (not complaining, i like  it) and folks that actually are selling or wanting stuff could well get lost in all that - which was exactly the reason given for splittin them up a few years ago. Its going to result in a lot of 'bump' posts

I also think workshop and tech are different (I also dont like change  :003: )

Workshop's gone  :010: ..... and where is my Friday thread  :010:

Ok NO flesh tonight then !!!!! ......  :098:

99 % of the time access threads through Unread topics anyway so no worries  :003:
Title: Re: forum layout changes
Post by: Bulldog67 on December 16, 2011, 12:16:16 PM
Actually the friday thread going may result in a coup bein the order of the day :070:

I know im being negative which is unlike me as im a little ray of sunshine, but I quite liked the spread of sections as it resulted in longer threads rather than these half a doz posts per thread and then its lost as there are so many others that swamp it

What drove the changes?

I never thought i would here myself say it but i agree with BD.Whilst the headings may have been merged/reduced i feel it will mean that a lot of topic posts will get lost very quickly down the pages as there will be a lot more to go through especially under general

Not so keen myself but then im always wary of change.... :lol_hitting:

Title: Re: Changes

to keep it tidy I have merged these 2 topics together seeing as they are on the same subject
Title: Re: Changes
Post by: jay140285 on December 16, 2011, 05:50:00 PM
I have to agree with “less headings” mean there will be loads of threads that end up lost. Plus the for sale is good for those wanting to sell stuff, bay watch was good for the crack and some days has many threads. The MX5 forum I was on had to many headings and took ages to navigate through and you got bored, the Isuzu forum I used to use had to little and you would post a thread and hours later it was done.

Birties was just perfect!

But let's give change a chance.

Less is more as they say.

The moderators were having a time keeping up with it all. We don't all have the time to spend all day every day
trawling the forums, yet it must be done. Believe it or not, we do like a modicum of decorum.

Having forums with confusing titles, like tech/workshop (yes, BD, I know you got it - most didn't), or forums
that get a post once every few months waste screen space.

The change was agreed by all the moderators, as being a good way forward.

what are these words modicum and decorum.... surely they have no place here!

Title: Re: Changes

if everyone was like me there would be no need for moderators

Still think we have gone too far, bring back WTF, For Sale & Wanted, Workshop :eusa_pray:
Title: Re: Changes

and im lookin forward to the stats breakdown on posts before and after - tis morgue like, so im off to finish 'State of Fear' by Michael Crichton - cracking book for those that refuse to swallow the climate change bullshit, even if the story line is a bit laborious, cliche riddled and far fetched

tis v weirdly slow apart from me bein on holiday, and we could view it as 'if it aint broke ......'
Title: Re: Changes
Post by: birty on December 19, 2011, 11:29:10 PM
the changes that have been made can not be reversed without loosing a lot of posts or someone moving them one by one
Title: Re: Changes

lost or just re-startin areas from afresh?
Title: Re: Changes

I think its fair in saying that those who help keep the forumn up and online do it for free,so as members we can't expect it to take them half a day of their time to keep it going ,so while i do share thoughts that things have changed and in a few minds not for the better . I think it understandable.

Any comments made were connected to birtys effectiveness as a forum, not as a entity or ethos or an off roading club, and im aware that some on here (which i find curious) think any time on a keyboard is time wasted, so I may well be in a minority. Usually feedback is requested through various points of the year.

And tbh I had no idea moderating was such a time consuming task (im only workin on the assumption that there are v v v few fuckwit posts), so hats off to ya gents.

So all was 'said' with the best intentions, however, hint taken, I will shut the fuck up about the changes now  :lol_hitting:
Title: Re: Changes
Post by: Nosebolt on December 20, 2011, 10:38:08 AM
ha ha ha you'll never 'shut the fuck up' and wouldn't have it any other way m8

and you know what they say, it looks easy cos it's being done right :003:
Title: Re: Changes
Post by: Bulldog67 on December 20, 2011, 10:40:40 AM
it did cross my mind i may well have to eat those words  :003:

I suppose I should treat this situation more like work and say that if you want me to accept changes quietly then you will have to pay me for it  >:D

The Dawg does a mighty fine job :beerchug:

I agree, it was gay. A new user who came to Birty's for a lurk might get the wrong impression, given that the prevailing infantile
subject matter tended towards butt plugs, KY jelly and gay bars.
