Title: Snorkels and waterproofing question
Post by: ponyracer1 on February 02, 2005, 10:54:33 PM
How many of you run snorkels? I see the water can get pretty deep around these parts. Anyone got any low buck ideas? I'm working on a few. What's an average price for an aftermarket kit?

 8) Thanks

Safari Snorkels are top banana, if you fit it yourself remember to throw away the template cos its shite.......ok, you can use it but its miles out.

Great feeling sticking a drill thro' ya body work, yeeha, and don't forget to block up your airbox once all sorted.

Paid about £150 plus vat for mine. In all honesty fit it yourself, piece of pi#@

Pony Racer

I can remember seeing an article for a homemade hummer style snorkel which came out just in front of the windscreen.  When I find it again I'll post a link.

HAHAHA That looks like an oops!! picture out of the back of a 4X4 mag!!

I'd be real interested in the hummer snorkel pics if you can find one.

Well I'm PISSED!! My bender was supposed to go out BAX global tomorrow and be here in a week or less. Now thanks to the beautiful UK tax system I have to have it shipped through the post office and it's going to take a month. They wanted me to pay 2.7% on the total + 17.5% VAT CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?? How can you guys deal with that CRAP?? It's a wonder there's anyone left in this country, I'm surprised everyone hasen't emigrated to spain or the states. OK I'm done, I think AAAGGGGGHHHHH, ok that was it. Take a deep breath.

So what do you guys know about waterproofing? Silicone all the electical joints?? Got any tips?

Thanks Phill

PonyRacer1

found the article:

http://www.americanjeepers.com/articles ... le-Snorkel (http://www.americanjeepers.com/articles/7/1/Custom-Hummer-Style-Snorkel)

don't know if it would work out cheaper than an ARB Safari Snorkel bought from a UK supplier.

For shipping from states it is sometimes worth checking out the costs of using people like UPS they seem more expensive initially as they include the customs handling charge up front rather than hiding it as US Postal via Royal Mail do.

As far as emigrating goes the US always seems attractive, after all the language is more or less the same, and the Jeep parts are cheaper :D

Thanks Woody!! I'll do some research and let you guys know what I find.

Off topic, anyone know the best way to make a 5 passanger TJ? I'm thinking of 3 race seats in the back intead of a bench?

Re. waterproofing, I spray the electrics with Waxoyl. This has proved very effective and lasts a long time.
Re. 3 seats in the back of a TJ, I reckon width would be an issue for 3 adults, maybe offset them so the middle one is in front of or behind the others. Don't forget you'll need seat belts for all three as well.

Yea that what I was thinking. Front to beside each other and the rear in the center. I'm going to put them on a 1 3/4 frame with belts.
