Fuel tank cleaner - petrol
« on: October 11, 2011, 08:17:00 PM »

It would appear that the Molotov has a slurry filled fuel tank as yet another fuel filter has bitten the dust, so before I go through the hassle of havin to give the nod to someone to drop the fuel tank and clean it out, is there a bottle of magic that I can throw in to clean it out?

Redex was pants by the way.

Did look at the frost stuff but it seemed way to complicated, I just wanna sling something in if Im doin it myself, no point overdoin it and gettin all worn out :a012:

Even if you added something to clean it,all its going to do is make more crap to block filter so get it dropped and cleaned out properly

hmmm i made a mistake with Sid by givin him all my old tools (old but unused :003: ), so he is ready to start workin on anything i hint at needing to be done, he must get it off his grandad coz that sorta attitude skipped past my genes, apparently he "needs to understand how all this stuff works"

he currently has a JP mag instead of a book in his school bag for when they have self choice reading  :icon_super:

its an old tank it will be full of rust and shit, you can either keep topping it up and replacing the filter on a regular basis or drain it , clean it out and seal it with a tank sealer  then your problem should never rise again.

What's the cost of a new tank, that's if there still available?

new tank is option number one, specifically one that increases capacity by a 1/3, reasonably priced TBH altho no doubt shippin will be a killer, but the CJ8 dream is killing me at the moment, hence a quick cheap fix

I would look at a new tank, or have one made to your specs, can't be that hard over in the UK to find someone to make one out of ali or stainless.

I am a fuckin idiot (like you didnt all know that already :003:), after Jez's top offer i googled the fuel tanks to see whether they looked remotely like each other, and when i saw a pic of the Chief fuel tank a lightbulb went ping in the dark recess of my brain  :icon_redface:

 :hysterical: :hysterical: :hysterical: :hysterical: :hysterical:

in my shed hidden behind a great big pile of CJ panels and parts is a brand new Chief fuel tank that i got with a truck a few deals ago  :icon_super:

FFS, sometimes I even suprise myself   :lol_hitting:

Cheers Jez, u inadvertently solved the problem for me  :greggmo:

we used to line the tanks of some of the one off military vehicles we worked on with a type of urethane, tbh it would be cheaper to buy a new tank in your case, but when your looking at a few £k for a new tank a couple of hundred looks good.

and in anycase would still need removing and clean the tank before lining,

just been and pulled the new one out from the stockpile, all good, and more importantly - black  :icon_super:

so its just gonna be a swap job, then when i have the cash i will get one of the bigger ones

i may in the meantime get a new filler neck tho, that is pretty rusty, and as you all know, dont keep the fuel cap on real tight :003:
