Central locking issue
« on: October 20, 2011, 01:47:56 PM »

When I bought my Jeep (N reg 95 UK spec XJ). It had what appears to be a Clifford alarm fitted, as there is a red light on the dash with Clifford written around it.

The light never lights up though. I've also got a keyfob, and despite the LED on it lighting up, doesn't seem to do anything.

I guess it once controlled the central locking???

Currently if I used the LOCK/UNLOCK switch on the inside of the drivers door, the central locking works fine. But when I use the key in the drivers door it doesn't activate the central locking.

Is this normal? Or is it the alarm stopping it working?

I'd quite happily remove the alarm, but it'd be nice if I could get the central locking to lock/unlock all the doors just by turning the key in the drivers door.

Is this possible?

Thanks.

The lock barrels on XJs aren't connected to the central locking. You need to get one of the original infra red remotes.
