Wheel,spacers
« on: May 11, 2014, 01:46:53 PM »

Been lookin at billet spacers, found a 30mm set at £160, also seen a 55mm set at the same money. Question is, how advisable are 55 mil spacers on wheel bearing etc ?

As long as they are thread locked on at the correct torque and stuff...... Tis no worse than going for a wheel with that amount of offset...... Yes the bearings will wear out quicker and even quicker if you run heavy 35s and spank it offroad....... But we don't worry about things like that :icon_twisted:. If it's needed then it's got to be done......
BUT... 30mm will be less damaging than 55mm  which might affect the steering properties if used at the front........ Might make it a bit 'darty'

Cheers chaps, may be worth me givin Carlos a shout. I'm running 31's but might stick with 30 mil as there's a bit of offset on the modulars. :)

Got 30mm spacers, offset wheels and 35s - wheel bearings don't last long. Don't think I'd go 55mm and offset wheels, just live with a tiny bit less lock.

Sorry for the hijack but how would I check the front  bearings on the TJ ?

Jack up Jeep Hands on wheel at 9 and 3 o'clock and check for play and then at 12 and 6 also....
Jack Jeep up a few inches and put crow bar under wheel and lift to see if play is in tie rods or ball joint...... If they are alright and show no movement and first test showed movement it's your wheel bearings. If no movement anywhere you're OK

Jez don't you mean 12 and 6 since 9 and 3 will feel any movement from the steering
