Engine noise
« on: May 09, 2005, 08:04:25 PM »

My 4.0l TJ seems to have developed a noise that I was not aware of before I changed the exhaust manifold. Difficult to describe and not being particularly experienced mechanically (but keen !) how would I go about diagnosing what it is? The best I can describe it as a 'ticking' sound but not like tappets ?!?! I have recorded a bit of video so that you can all hear it, but dont know how to attach it to this message, failing that happy to email it to any of you whizz kids [/img]

Yep, that ticking is the first thing most people hear when the manifold begins blowing.
Did you clean off the old gasket off thoroughly?

Did you paste exhaust sealer on the gasket, both sides?

The studs/bolts have to be spotlessly clean or you may get a false reading from the torque wrench.
