Hi to all

just found your forum, hopefully i can pick up some help from people who have already had the same questions answered when they started.

We have just bought a yj, specifically for off road or green lane work. (i dont think its been offroad yet looks to clean !)

Anyroad up, im sure im going to have a lot of questions to ask as we go on, but the obvious first one is tryes, what size trye ( and brand ) do forum users recomend for our intended use which will in all fairness be off road or green laning except when trying to get there, where we will be on road of course.

Do i get new wheels as well and ditch the standard alloys?

has anyone listed modifications to make to a yj in oprder of importance (subject to budget of course)

A good set of mud terrains,like BF Goodrich or Cooper STT`s etc.Not too noisy on the road and good offroad.
maybe a budget 2" lift which can be done cheaply and doesnt really compromise the driveline and i think then you can go to 31 inch tyres although maybe someone more knowledgeable can confirm
Some quicker disconnects for extra flex and you should be okay at that to start with.Go much more on the lift and you start talking serious money in driveline and steering adaptations

welcome aboard. as for mods. maybe the first thing to do is chuck some mud tyres on there. like tank says. it makes a massive difference to a motors off road ability also maybe some dissconnects for the anti roll bar at the front, this lets the springs move more independently of each other and gives better grip and footing. the best advice i would ive is get out to an event nd have a play. if you enjoy it then move on from there. 8-)

what size tryres should i go for and should i buy mud plugging type wheels rather than the gold alloys it has fitted

You can use you shiny gold ones but if you want to keep them, get a set of standard jeep 15" steel wheels.

Nice n cheap. these are wheels are good to fit upto 31" x 10.5" tyres, plenty big enough for now.

Enjoy & listen to what folks say, get some mud tyres & have a play, plenty of time to spend lots of cash & its addictive.

BTW, when you do go out to play, make sure you have a good front & rear recovery point.

the best way is to go with heavy duty front and rear bumpers with recovery points. i can make ya some for £100 each or ya can have a look around see what ya can find. you can use a tow hitch for recovery if you have one fitted and there are some after market hooks you can buy for the front end. the later are not the best but will get ya out the shit so to speak. :lol:

By the way, what do you guys do regarding the carpets, do you strip them out or do you put the large rubber tray mat thingy's down over the carpets?

If ya truck is just for offroain, then ditch the carpets.

They will soon look like crap covered in mud anyway.

A set of 31 mud tyres, you some times pick them up on the bay, but dont spend a fortune on them.

If you get the bug, then you can start spending loads, and you will

he is reasonable for tyre prices you might be able to get some cheaper but they may sting you for shipping. a local tyre place should be able to fit and balance your tyres for £15 to £20

Better location is off at junction 25 , M1 then head to Nottingham along A52 and turn into Bardells garden centre. Thats the last location i found him at but double check with him.

Yep, they would do.

They like the Maxxis tyres in the US.

But what I meant was, watch the bay for some second hand 31s

That way, if you do get the bug and start modding your truck, you will probably want to move up to 33s.

You could then sell the 31s and get your money back :-D

Hi Ted,i have looked at quite a few on the web etc and these people at Camskill seem to be around at least £10 a tyre cheaper and only £9.60 for 4 tyres delivered and only £12.50 for 5 tyres,best so far by miles

The Bighorn seem to be a 70/30 split....70% offroad and 30% onroad whereas the Buckshot are an 80/20 split so depends what your orientation will be.For 5 Busckshot from Camskill it is still only £307 plus only £12.25 for delivery
