Has anybody swapped an xj full time 4wd t/box into a yj? Be nice to have a centre diff......
-
not on a yj, but yes on a zj 2.5 td, manual, works a treat :003: :icon_jook:

I thought the reason why swb jeeps didn't have full time 4wd was because they were too short.
The full time 4wd transfer case is too long to work in a wrangler, since the rear shaft would have to be very short and at a steep angle.
-
don't beleive it is too short , have read on jeep forum about a few people dropping cherokee's gearbox's and transfer cases into tj's to get the overdrive and help the mpg. so don't see why it should not fit a cherokee might just take some work with plumbing the electrics in.

think you need to swap the whole lot.

Can you get a SYE for the cherry transfer case?????????? That willl be key to the success.......or not
-
its a hack and tap sye
if you use a later facelift 242 its easier and cheaper
this is an early 242

You'll lose the vacuum switch that engages the axle disconnect.

Won't be missing it, as it doesn't work now!
After reading a lot of the yank sites I believe it isn't a problem to swap the boxes. I think the next step is to put the two next to each other and work out the differences and find a SYE.....
