Oil Pressure Guage
« on: December 01, 2010, 08:16:24 AM »

Hi,

2002 4.7V8 60th Anniversary Grand Cherokee.

Driving to work this morning -2 temp outside. All of a sudden the guage warning light came on and the oil guage was reading 0.

Upon pulling away it went up to 1/2 way one the guage but everytime I stop moving and the revs drop below 1000 it goes back to 0.

Whats causing this, have i blown a pipe somewhere or oil pump failing??? only had the car just over a week.

Cheers

I would change the oil & filter (for peace of mind) & check with a mechanical pressure gauge, could be a sender.

Its just had a service only 2000mile ago,

Car is under warranty from where I brought it from. If its a quick fix I will sort myself rather that get the car recovered 50miles back to the garage.

The oil pressure guage on my diesal cherokee waves about like a conductors baton..!   Nothing wrong with the oil pressure , just a duff sender unit it seems....

Probably the same problem on yours , but its best to have it checked out , if you really do have low oil presure it can kill an engine very quickly...

Driving home last night, all was perfect.

Coming to work this morning, it kept playing up again.

Going to contact the dealer now to see what they think.

Sounds like its the sender unit...but best to get it checked...somebody told me that to get to the sender unit to replace it is a bit of a pain , hence the reason mine is still waving about all over the place...
