Our Jeep Grand Cherokee 2005 WJ 2.7 CRD has just started to vibrate from the front end when reaching 65 mph increasing in intensity as you accelerate towards an indicated 80 mph.
It's been provisionally diagnosed as a faulty Transfer Box by my local garage who look after the motor. When the front drive shaft was removed it apparently was heaps better.
They suggested I get a second opinion - has anyone here had a similar issue ?

Not had a Grand but had an XJ & TJ, different transfer box's obviously but could this be the Prop bearings / UJ's rather than the transfer case ? Don't some props have a weight stuck on them to balance them ? Maybe get the prop checked / refurbed first
Just my thoughts, hope its a cheap fix whatever it turns out to be :icon_winkle:

:iagree: with Gaz.
I had a similar problem with my Patrol...new uni joints fixed it.

How's your steering?
Mine went kinda vague a few 100K back and it was the Bushes on the axles - the WJ would be fine but at speed it would vibrate and the steering response became vague.
jack up your front axle and check for play in the ball joints.
