I'm going to replace the ABS Tone Ring on my XJ tomorrow, does anyone have any useful tips?

I've recently done this on mine.

A Dremel is helpful to cut the old one off, plus clean up the mating surface for the new one. Also, try to avoid hammering too hard - I ruined my UJ, although I think it was on its way out anyway.

Thanks.

I did not get time to do it, too busy welding!  :icon_rolleyes: So it is still on the to-do list.

Do you have to slide the drive shaft out of the axle?

Yes, you'll have to take it out of the axle, plus remove the wheel bearing/hub from the shaft.  :003:

as bryn said.

But you should be able to knock it off with a cold chisel and lump hammer, I've removed old ones and been able to sell them

Thanks guys.  I guess it makes sense to also change the axle seal while it is out.  :017:

There's no actual seal that comes out with the shaft, the only thing you'll see is the plastic dust cap that "seals" the end of the tube.
