Broken wire in drivers door (common fault)
« on: December 19, 2017, 01:24:48 AM »

Sorry for two questions in as many days! :)

I have an issue on my 02 GC where the window controls don't work when the driver's door is open.  I searched around when I first got the car and read about an earth wire that commonly snaps in the door shut.  Not a problem I thought; I'll put up with it.

However I also have an annoying thing where the interior lights don't go off when I lock the car.  They stay on for ~15 mins afterwards.  It's fine in the day time, but when I leave it parked up on my drive it attracts attention from people walking past.  I have to remember to switch them off on the stalk which I often forget.

Does anyone know whether the common fault also causes this symptom?

Thanks, Chris

Are you sure you haven't got the interior/dash dimmer light switch ramped up to the max? Try turning it down a bit.

I have... but if you turn it down to that the interior lights go on/off with the doors you can't see the dials (at night, obviously)

It should slide down just one notch from max to turn the lights off, without dimming the dashboard lights. On all of our Jeeps, putting it all the way at the top is a deliberate function to put the interior lights on.

Ok thanks, might just be me being stupid in that case. Will give it a go.

Wasn’t being stupid. It’s on ‘one from the top’ so the dash lights are on but not interior lights. When I open the door though the interior lights come on and don’t go off when I close the door and lock up until about 15 mins later.

Surely this is a fault?

This is a real long shot....in my KJ, I could adjust that time period (lights stay on) from about 30 secs up to 5 mins. All done in the menu in the overhead console....I have no idea if the GC has the same set up, but can't really see it being too different.

As I said....a long shot!

Standing by to get shot down in flames.

Actually works exactly the same way in my Golf.

Sounds like the same problem, it thinks the door's open all the time until the BCM times out.

Try disconnecting the battery then re-connect it.

I had similar issues it was a broken wire on the drivers door bundle - local garage charged me £10 to put in a new piece  - that was a8 months ago all still good.
