Connection Problems
Sorry, SMF was unable to connect to the database. This may be caused by the server being busy. Please try again later.
Hey Dawg,
I've noticed the forum has been a bit slow to respond over the last few days. Then I got the message above earlier on.
Anything strange goin on with the server ?
-
Has it done it since? Database was repaired around 5pm (UK time).
-
That would coincide with the error message.
Site still seems a bit slow though.
-
apparently there was a hardware failure at the server, now fixed, cant find any problem with the speed so may be local or an ISP issue but will test again later when more people are on just in case
-
No need to check, it seems normal again now.
-
I did notice, but just put it down to my near worthless mobile broadband.
And they are talking about 20 Meg speeds..........FFS it's as slow as dial up sometimes :icon_eek:

some will have noticed we had another outage today, decided to have a chat with support...
Mark: [9:25:47 AM] Welcome to support chat. How can I help you today?
Birty: [9:25:47 AM] second day running now we have had our site unavailable due to server overload, what plans are in place to correct this?
Mark: [9:26:00 AM] Thanks, give me a minute or two to take a look please.
[9:29:29 AM] I see an admin is aware of a server problem and working to restore service ASAP, they estimate this to take approximately 20 minutes. And they will cony7inue to monitor the server once the work is complete to catch any recurring issues, I am sorry for the trouble.
[9:29:41 AM] continue* to monitor.
Birty: [9:31:03 AM] thanks, it just seems to be a pattern starting and at the start or the working day your time. Need to know it will get sorted
Mark: [9:34:46 AM] No problem, I know this has been a persistent problem in recent days for this servers and others, they are working on a long term resolution via Kernel patch that is being rolled out to the affected servers, this may take another day or so to get rolled out to all, but they believe this will fix the issue long term, and will continue manually correcting any issues that arise until this fix is in place.
Birty: [9:35:47 AM] many thanks, I’ll pass that on to my members when i can get back onto the site. Bye for now

At least they are aware there's an issue.
