Title: Cheapfest 2014, the 10th anniversary
Post by: birty on January 21, 2014, 09:34:41 PM
(http://www.cheapfest.co.uk/CF14.jpg)

2014 is a big year for our club as it marks the 10th anniversary of CHEAPFEST - BirtyDastards annual club event – which as usual will be held at the off road site of Coney Green Farm nr Stourport on Severn over the weekend of 13th & 14th September, although camping will be available from the 12th.

Just briefly for those of you that don’t know back in the day there was a national event called JeepFest in the UK that was hideously expensive, so when JeepFest  folded the original team at BirtyDastards Jeep Club set up their own annual event for it members and called it Cheapfest.

Coupled with the 10th anniversary of Cheapfest is we hope a change of direction for the future of the Jeep community in the UK where we can fortify and rebuild strong links with clubs that in essence share the same passion – JEEPS. Subsequently, we have officially invited via their forums all the other Jeep clubs in the UK to attend and have provided them with discount codes for pre-booking tickets for the weekend. We really hope that we can make this a huge event and help get the ball rolling for the clubs to work together and share events in the future.

So, along with those ambitions and the 10th anniversary came a need to expand the programme for Cheapfest: as well as the usual weekend off road free roaming fun at Coney Green Farm – which is suitable for stock Jeeps as well as hardcore trail rigs – there will also be gated trials, punch hunts, and guided tours for standard Jeeps.

Outside of the driving opportunities we are planning outside catering over the weekend, music in the evening, fireworks, and a free to enter show & shine event. We also have commitments from off road related businesses such as Llama4x4 & Jeep Monkey that are enthusiastic to come along with their trade stands.

The event will also be covered by Total Off Road (TOR) magazine.

There are many different options on tickets and all are welcome whether driving off road and camping for the weekend or coming for a day visit as a spectator and meet some old and new friends. Obviously it’s cheaper to pre-book but entry on the day/s at the gate will be available.

Please see all the details here: http://cheapfest.co.uk

Discount codes for Birtys are:

CF14BDJCwend for Weekend entry with Off Roading
CF14BDJCsun for Sunday entry with Off Roading
CF14BDJCsat for Saturday entry with Off Roading

Regular information and updates on the event can be found via:

BirtyDastards Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/birtydastardsjeepclub

BirtyDastards Twitter: https://twitter.com/BD_JeepClub

Please share the event details on Facebook with any of your off road Jeeping mates.

Please note: the event will be fully marshalled and run by volunteers – it is a not for profit event and any surplus after costs, hire of toilets etc, and administration etc will be donated to our nominated charity.

Birtys is getting some attention from the Yanks on twitter now, might be worth prodding Bushwacker on there to see if there'd be any chance of some freebees. (They fav'd the Cheapfest tweet) so could be worth a prod with a pointy stick.  :icon_winkle:

Mmmm...freebies  :icon_twisted:

Might be good for a charity raffle / auction - raising money for a dedicated cause and people get some new parts for their Jeeps would be good and would provide some entertainment.

In return (apart from raising money for charity) we could put promotional material into the trade stand area.

I will be there.
Now do I buy or rent  a trailer and bring the TJ towed by the ZJ  :017: or do I drive the TJ down and suffer from boneshakers syndrome for 2 days  :017:
Looking forward to it already and even more so if the beers are cold. As soon as my hols are confirmed I will book .
Title: Re: Cheapfest 2014, the 10th anniversary
Post by: jay140285 on January 26, 2014, 09:03:39 PM
£100ish for a trailer to hire for the weekend,

I bet you would use a lot of fuel in the TJ to get down.

So tow off ZJ and if you break anything all you have to do is get it back on the trailer.

So light at less than 100 kilos that it could have been ridden up some of the bits that the Russian bike was hauled up........

Don't forget to use the coupon codes relevant to Birtys or other clubs when buying tickets. They are at the beginning of this thread or in events sections on other clubs' forum pages.

I'm sure Lakenheath guys are welcome, hopefully NB will do a new set of codes for them or has already done some 'other' club ones they can use.

They're showing an interest in Wagtail as a 4th of July (Independance Day) weekender as well. I think they'd be a good addition, and they didn't seem to be a bunch of yahoo's (they have good money in their rigs, too much to just F them up for fun) and would definitely increase the attendees total.

There's been a few USAF guys come out to events over the years, I like their approach to stuff and seeing their rigs. They will probably have to register on here for insurance reasons and to get member rates.

the field to enter the discount code only shows up if you have selected a ticket option that needs a code,

use the correct code for the ticket, they are different for sat, sun and weekend, once entered click apply and the price will change, then go to checkout and pay.

Is the club code case sensitive ? Checkout said £75 is that right for a weekend off roading and camping with JOC discount ??

No mate, for Birty's, JOC, etc its £45 for the weekend for all club members. £75 is to put off those who aren't known by folks in Jeep clubs. Should just copy n paste.

If you keep having problems PM me & I'll send you the Paypal address  :icon_winkle:

Hi Gaz,

Sorry for late reply. I booked ages ago, it was on 27th May. I am member on here and also with JOC and with Jeepey Club so I can't remember which code I used but I paid £45 by Paypal at the time.

Hope it's all ok?

Yes your mate can come but unless he registers here on Birty's or one of the other clubs he will have to pay non member price, look here  http://www.birtydastards.com/frm/index.php?topic=26403.0

We have in the past had a large camp fire but as we are having a marquee & a band this year then no, unless we organise a large one but it wont be in the camping field for safety reasons.

yes it is, and it was and hopefully will be in very good condition again, common problem is the tyres deteriorate over time due to lack of use, long standing times etc, they looked like new, any caravan tyre over 5 years old should be changed for new ones, now I know, I will be fitting 3 new tyres, not going through this again, good job it was behind the Jheep, anything smaller and it could have been so much worse, scary stuff being stuck on a motorway hard shoulder.

American black walnut awful stuff. Still have nightmares 5 year on!!!

And what you been useing American black for? And European oak? Nicer than American white but is more expensive.  Japanese oak is really nice but mega money.  You used any zebrano?

American black for high end kitchen units and stuff.....

European oak......not so much as planks too small and lots of knots...

American white oak nice wide planks not many knots and cheaper than European oak for massive dressers and the like........

Sadly more European oak is being ripped out of Eastern Europe where it has been untouched by man  due to communist dictators........ Now all different...... 50 years time it will look like Scotland
Buggah all trees......... Except cultivated pine.......

Aahhh you make furniture!  Walnut is a bit soft I find easily damaged. Made a staircase and some simple paneling for a customer 5 year ago! Still dream of sanding sanding samdimg

Walnut has become my favourite over the years........ Probably because most people want Oak or painted fx.......
Nice stairs by the way.

Did the whole room.. Tanked it all then plastered it out.all stairs and paneling are from walnut then sapely French doors and Windows linned with walnut.  I seem to get oddball stuff to make... On with a sauna at moment from Douglas fir. And a draw pack from sapely to match a chest of draws

Looks like I am commencing delivery of jeeps and things on Thursday late on.

Picking up Tom Penny at about half 9 (pm) to get his TJ and my ZJ to site, I will leave my ZJ and the trailer on site and then tow the caravan over early Friday morning off the pick up ready to receive deliveries of loos and showers, before heading off to pick up generator and lighting.

Hate to say this campers, but there is an additional wakeup facility. :headhack: :headhack: :headhack:

Added to the collection is now a donkey, and no I don't mean a certain Birty, an actual four legged, long eared, hairy braying animal.

OK, yes I do mean a certain Birty.

Oh and don't forget the five barking collie dogs (could re write the 12 days of Christmas at this rate)

Happy Camping lol  :flag: :flag: :flag:

I saw that just as I was leaving and nearly soiled myself........ I had to shout to Kev to point it out,
He was on his way for a look.........

I'm on the lookout for one of those..........

Useless piece of information.....
My axles will fit under one of those and turn one into a 4x4 54-59 chev pick up......... They were available by NAPCO as an extra during the fifties that almost doubled the cost of the truck. So not many around......

I shall now hang up my anorak and pour a nice soothing Merlot.......... :icon_super:
