I'm getting a loud screeching noise every time I press the clutch pedal, im thinking it's a knackered release bearing, actual clutch seems fine, but makes sense to replace the lot if the gearbox is coming out,
Just wondering if anyone as any recommendations on a clutch kit?

Standard 3 piece from Lighthouse or Crown.....
All the hi zoot ones you read about are a waste of time and money......
Mainly because you don't use ......as in slip the clutch like you do in a performance car......

Think I used a Sachs last time, it's always the relesae bearing the plate itself is always ok, and I'm on my 4th clutch in my TJ, a top tip is to seal the slot at the front of the bell housing with silicone to stop water getting in, it worked for me.

Yep screeching preempted my release bearing collapsing. Just got a kit from Midwest motor factors was about £190 I think. I pulled the transfer box off to make life easier.

I never had an issue with water or mud. Maybe I am lucky but besides Landies I don't know anyone that tries to seal them.
My original clutch started slipping bad and I put a center force one in. Wasn't after one specifically but got a deal. Works better then the original and is still going strong after 80k worth of abuse.
I also put a hand throttle in years ago and this is great for off road. With the better control you don't slide the clutch as much so that may attribute to the longer life.

Yes Deffo that one about the hand throttle..... And having the correct gears .....means no slip....
Unlike standard YJ or TJ on 33s :hysterical:

LUK are supposedly OEM with Sachs used in some cases (probably when there were supply issues with the LUK sets). It seems LUK at least in the US market has changed from metal bodied to plastic on the release bearings. Many people have had problems with those plastic housed bearings failing. So whatever kit you get, if it has a plastic bodied bearing I'd find a metal one to use instead.

Blueprint clutch kit arrived today, bearing as a metal body but the one on the Tj that failed is plastic..

I assume your clutch has been done in the past if it had a plastic one in there.

I think so, it looks like an uprated one, i.e. Big gaps on the friction plate and the pressure plate was painted orange..

Finally got a few spare hours to get the gearbox back in, I was impressed I got it back in on my own...
