Rear axle misaligned (2000 XJ 4.0 Orvis)
« on: December 11, 2016, 03:26:47 PM »

I had a woman hit my Jeep on the drivers side as I was stopping at a junction she tried ot turn into. Sadly she didn't make the turn and ploughed into the drivers side. He car hit the passenger door and then carried on to hit the rear offside tyre. It now sits a little further back in the arch than the other side!

Initial inspection shows no torn mounts, bent rails or shiny metal where there was rust, so structurally all sound. The springs are both sagged anyhow, but the shackle on the side she hit is now shoved back.

Weird. I'm hoping a new set of springs, shackles and U bolts will sort it all out. Any idea what size bolts the front and rear spring bushes accept? I cannot seem to find them on line?

The centering pin in the spring might have snapped and the axle slid back on the spring.

Bolts are M14 flange head 10.9, not sure of length

Insurance? It's sure to be a write-off. :003: and don't forget the whiplash claim.

UPDATE.

The Jeep is repaired and back on the road better than ever. I had a pair of springs fitted along with new shackles and U bolts, so not only is it now pointing the right direction, it is riding at the right height too.

Very pleased.
