Title: Following on from what upgrades

Ok so taking the advice from previous thread, first mods will be

Recovery points
Tyres
Sway bar disconnects
Transfer-case and sill protection.

So
Recovery points - what to get, where from, how many, where to fit and how?

Tyres - any recommendations? Guess thats how long is apeice of string.

TC and sill protection - what and where from?

Sorry for all the questions but new to this and would rather get advice from those in the know than stumble along blind and screw up.  :icon_redface:

You are actually limited to 235/75R15 on standard suspension if you want it to articulate any. 31x10.5x15  is best
left to a 3" lift.

31s on 3" lift
33s on 4.5"+ lift
35s on 6"+ lift

You can do it other ways with wing modifications etc but this is a good accepted guide.

Recovery points - front hooks or shackle mounts available from US or UK Jeep suppliers, rear tow bar is a simple one or fit more hooks/shackle mounts

Stock Jeep transfercase skid is okay for getting started, if driving on rocks or seriously abusing the Jeep then look into an aftermarket one from the US (Rustys, Skid Row...). OR speak to Bubba and Greggmo.

Rockrails - probably best to get made here by someone (Bubba, Greg). Can buy from US but f##k!n heavy for postage.

Tyres - minefield, pick some you like and maybe asked for opinions on 3-4 - Everyone has opinions on tyres  :icon_winkle:

Here's mine in it's current state - 6" lift and 33s. Yes, I could get bigger tyres on easily but at the moment I have equal up and down travel on my suspension - 12" shocks.

I've had it since it was standard, started with diesel spec springs (~1" lift), then Old Man Emu 2.5", then 3.5" with 31" tyres, now this setup.

Thanks for the info.
Ok some decisions made.
Going to fit TD rear leafs with extended shackles and coil spacers straight off.  Cheap to do and as I have to buy all new tyres might as well get a bit more clearence.
Rear anti roll is outta there  :098:
Quick disconnects from Llama
Sill protection I will make up myself.
TC guard need to source.
Tyres will probably be Maxxis.  No point in spending loads of cash as will probably replace in 6-9 months time.
So whats the best size option assuming just a 2" lift with swaybar disconnects fitted

30x9.5x15. You can theoretically fit 31s, but they'll rub badly. If you're going to mod it
more later, fitting shackles and spacers is hardly worth it. If you're going to do a job,
do it right - spacers and shackles are no substitute for longer springs.

Putting 235/75R15s on will give you 29" tyres. You will probably find that it would be better
on stock suspension and 29s than bodged suspension and 30s.

Also, disconnects would be a waste of money as you'll need to
replace them when you go higher, and they're not cheap.

Decisions decisions.....

Just did a trail this weekend at Frickley, was my first event and a lot tougher than I was expecting having said that it was great fun, regarding the 31" tyres rubbing, yes they do but it still out turns a landy / Range Rover and suziki if you dont mind cranking the tyres against the leaf springs (yj)

My biggest downfall apart from total lack of experience was ground clearance, several times I was left beach with all 4 wheel in the air )

So to uphold Jeep honour whats the best way of getting more ground clearance without changing / destroying the drive shafts, I am fitting new standard springs this weekend, since mine are knackered the bend upwards while at rest, how much can i push longer shackles and any other ideas for clearance ?

Or is there a recomended package I should be aiming for to get me competive in club trialing ?
