Title: Xj mk2 immobiliser issues
Post by: Toptooler on November 14, 2014, 06:41:07 PM
Ok here the issue battery disconnected for 10 days due to engine rebuild my own fault water too deep snorkel pipe was adrift from bottom of air box.
This is Carloses old xj mk2 auto 4.0l purple.
Garage rings me today and says the car will crank over but not start no power to ignition coil.
The only problem is the immobiliser never worked before or the fob for the central door locking it's has a grey key.Key has been in the ignition the whole time the battery has been disconnected.
All the lights come on as normal then go out as normal when you turn ignition and turns over ,the red light in the front of centre consul stays on never seen this on before presume this is the immobiliser light but now on all the time.
So whats the problem and how to solve it ?
Cheers Mark

If it has a grey SKIS key it is unlikely to be an immobiliser fault unless there is a key symbol flashing on the das. Scan it for fault codes.

Immobiliser probs normally show by engine starting and then dying after 3 secs. If you scan you might find the crank or cam sensor at fault or a short to ground somewhere - even if it was fine before.

It probably won't be much help, and Mike probably knows exactly what it says already, but I've got the original alarm/immobiliser handbook from my '98 XJ if you want me to scan it in for you?

Evening
Thanks for your responses, key symbol goes out on dash when ignition is turned on after a few seconds.
I think garage said no error codes will check in morning.
Thanks again Mark

not sure if your xj has the same system as my 99 TJ may and schofield with grey key, however your fault sounds the same. solid immobiliser light on turning over but no spark. My fix was to get a USA pcm that didn't have the immobiliser activated, I did read that on some jeeps the immo was just piggy backed onto the pcm and could simply be unplugged from the loom. also you might be able to use a pcm from an earlier model.

SKIS TJs (98 on) had a similar looking May and Schofield unit retro fitted but it did not immobilise the vehicle.. It was solely there to allow a dealer fit May and Schofield alarm system upgrade to be fitted.

My US PCM is from a manual non SKIS TJ, will that work in an auto SKIS XJ?
