Hello All,
So, mindful that the road to enlightenment in the subject of understanding of Jeep immobilisation is a long and tortuous one (we have done much research!), I bring you the following:
Me and my young apprentice (son - 15 years old) have acquired an early (1995) 4.0 XJ. It's in generally good nick, and the plan is to bring it slowly back to the standard to completeness and mechanical reliability that it deserves.
So far, he's sorted out the oil pressure indication problems, done some interior work, fixed the locking, done the boot lid gas struts, fixed the transfer box shift linkage and greased the various parts of the drivetrain/suspension. New LH mirror and then harmonic balancer and front crank oil seal are next.
One area that we're pondering for the future is the immobiliser. Here's what we know:
]If the battery is disconnected the key fob must be pressed, then the 'valet' button has to be pressed.
This leaves the system in permanent 'valet' mode and all unlocking is done with the key from then onwards. Locking is done by locking from inside and shutting the door.
The siren under the bonnet has been disconnected.
From what we've found, we believe that the early XJ (front doors with quarter light glass) don't have the May and Scofield system that was installed at the point of importation in the UK.
So, the question is this - has anybody seen a system that looks like this, and does anybody have any info on it?
We'd either like to get it back so it locks on the fob (and get a backup fob); or remove the whole shebang.
