3.0 CRD
« on: May 01, 2016, 03:19:30 PM »

Hi guys, I've recently brought a 2007 GC overland 3.0crd to tow the XJ to events.

I have just given it a good service and changed the glow plugs as it didnt like starting in the mornings. There doesnt seem to be any power to the glow plugs, I stuck a code reader on and there are faults for the glow plug module and the temp sensor! Im going to start with the temp sensor but any idea where it is?

There is a 4 pin plug with 3 wires just under the turbo that someone has removed and fitted a resistor too. Would that be the one? Looks a bit of work if it is.

also the radiator fan runs from cold.

thanks

Kev.

Glow plug modules are pretty common Kev. About £140 from Mercedes.

Glow plug module Kev. There's a few sellers on eBay £140-150. Mercedes part for this engine. Two minute job to change. Not sure about radiator fan, might be temp controller. I think I have all the workshop manuals as pdf still, send me your email address by PM.

Hillbilly fix for the module would be a manual switch for the glow plugs!

It's what I have done on my pick up.

Do you really want to go mess in around with the complicated electronics on the 3.0 crd though? In the full service manual it says the glow plugs can be used during running as part of the emissions and cleaning / DPF (if fitted) cycles so I never wanted to piss about with work around fixes that might just make the electronics do a crap. I had electrical problems with mine though and was stranded a few times so am probably more wary than you need to be.
