GC starting issue after turning off
« on: June 03, 2015, 10:19:37 AM »

Hi everyone

Newbie here with a prob.  Loving the GC Orvis but it seems to have developed a bit of an issue.

Every day I can get in and start and go on runs of differnt lengths and the Jeep performs as should.  Recently the truck has started to misbehave after switching off.  If I need to restsrt shortly after, like after fuelling up, the thing will not start.  Key turns and lights on dash are all on and dont go out but the car wont start.  If I leave it maybe 5 or so minutes she fires up again no problem.

I have had a trawl through the forums and I seem to be getting the idea that it is obviously something to do with the immobiliser.  However I dont seem to see anybody with the exact issue I seem to be having.  I did pull the battery off over the winter to charge. Not sure if this did anything to the car.  I may of course be being a numpty of the highest class!

Any help would be greatfully received!

Cheers.

On a ZJ the key fob gets pressed to turn alarm on and then key in and off you go.

If you stop and get out..... The immob sets after 30 secs and Jeep won't start, so fob has to be pressed again .......

If you are doing this already apologies......but happened to guy I sold mine to :jpshakehead:

Thanks for that.

I finally worked that out after a few weeks - groan!  However, if i press the unlock button, sometimes it will deem to fire up and on others nothing.  Odd thing is - if I leave Jeep for about 5 - 10 mins it fires up no probs.

Just wondering if its the immobiliser that is fitted here in the UK that is giving me trouble.

Also - changed the batts in the fob, just in case but still the same.

Cheers.

Mine used to do the same until I realised about the unlock thing.

Every now and then. It still catches me out when you think you have pressed the Unlock but it hasn't actually worked.

The only way I can tell is either by the sound of the doors trying to unlock
Or on my ZJ It has got a forgetfull door mirror and that drops to the floor.

Does the enginge crank in that 5 to 10 mins?

If not then I would say it is the immobiliser giving you the problem.

Try locking then unlocking.... see if that helps...

Sorry I can't be of more help but it's a thought....

No the engine wont crank at all.

Glad I'm not alone in this!

Seems as though it may be the immobiliser as I definately hear the car unlocking.

Cheers for the help.

My zj sometimes does this.
If it wont crank I lock it and then unlock straight way usually goes no bother then.

Never had to wait 5 minutes so yours may be different problem.

Is it automatic? I'm having similar problems with my 94 XJ Cherokee 4.0 but have narrowed it down to the gear selector and/or inhibitor (Neutral Safety Switch) switch. If i wiggle the gear lever back/forth/side to side while trying to start then it turns over fine and fires.

From cold there is rarely a problem, if i switch off and return a few minutes later it plays up. If i leave it a while it's fine again.

Symptoms certainly match yours, hopefully the cure will too!
