Post by: neilhull on June 14, 2009, 10:09:05 AM
Hi I think the pinion shaft seal is starting to leak on my rear axle  :| . Do i do this the same way i have done other ones
mark the nut and casing then count the number of turns to take the nut of . Do the seal then put the nut back on the same number of turns . Or is there a different way to do jeep pinion seals  . All advice appreciated  :-)
       cheers NEIL

Yeah not a hard job, lining up the new seal so its 'square' when it goes back in... think I used a 50mm core drill bit to push it even evenly.

You should have a Dana 35 on the rear and most have LSD, if your changing your fluid at the same time (worth doing) then don't forget the LSD additive or the LSD wont work and bind up.

Cheers Maf

IIRC

Petrol 4.0 facelifts don't have LSD
Mk 1 Petrol / Pre facelift & all Diesels do have LSD

No doubt someone with more knowledge will confirm or deny

Not more knowledge but just to contradict....

My 2000 year 4ltr auto classic had the traclok rear LSD from the factory, it's listed on the build sheet as well. I don't know if this was specced as an optional extra by the original purchaser or a standard item. It could have been optional as I also have leather and the brochure I have for that model year suggests I should have cloth seats?

If you are not sure if you have the LSD or not, then for £4, just putting the additive in anyway is cheap insurance and it will do no harm if you don't actually have the LSD unit.
