Hi I think the pinion shaft seal is starting to leak on my rear axle :| . Do i do this the same way i have done other ones
mark the nut and casing then count the number of turns to take the nut of . Do the seal then put the nut back on the same number of turns . Or is there a different way to do jeep pinion seals . All advice appreciated
cheers NEIL
ps 1997 cherry think its a 44 axle . do these model have the limited slip diff ?

HI No replyes to this come on some body reassure me i am doing the right way
-
yup that is deffo the way to do it use a spot of thread lock when you put the nut back on so it cant back off
-
:imwitstupid: and it is a d 35 axle you have if it is factory just so ya dont order the wrong part. :greggmo:

Yeah not a hard job, lining up the new seal so its 'square' when it goes back in... think I used a 50mm core drill bit to push it even evenly.
You should have a Dana 35 on the rear and most have LSD, if your changing your fluid at the same time (worth doing) then don't forget the LSD additive or the LSD wont work and bind up.

IIRC
Petrol 4.0 facelifts don't have LSD
Mk 1 Petrol / Pre facelift & all Diesels do have LSD
No doubt someone with more knowledge will confirm or deny

Not more knowledge but just to contradict....
My 2000 year 4ltr auto classic had the traclok rear LSD from the factory, it's listed on the build sheet as well. I don't know if this was specced as an optional extra by the original purchaser or a standard item. It could have been optional as I also have leather and the brochure I have for that model year suggests I should have cloth seats?

thanks chaps :jump_125: will now do this asap . RE l.s.d will it matter if i put the additive in
cheers NEIL

yep, you definately need to put it in!!!! if not then your lsd will wear out very fast an then cost you a hell of a lot more!!!! its only about 4 quid from the dealer.

If you are not sure if you have the LSD or not, then for £4, just putting the additive in anyway is cheap insurance and it will do no harm if you don't actually have the LSD unit.
