Hi
I have got my new purchase Jeep Grand Cherokee V8 on the road, its a 1999, and its a much better drive than my previous Range Rover HSE. The Jeep is faster, smoother and quieter, but I have a slight issue which could be something serious!!!.
When I slow to a stop it often seems to drop out of drive, if you brake to a complete stop then its fine but when you coast to a stand still at say below 2mph it seems to clunk and is out of drive ie does not do the automatic transmission creep etc, when you touch the accelator it pulls off fine with no clonks etc.
I dont if this is a Quadra Drive issue or if its normal.
Thanks

I have same vehcile, and your issue doesn't sound normal, quadra track/drive is only about power to different axles and wheels, the auto box should work wherever. Assume its in D, does same fault occur in 2 or 1 or reverse ? Don't know if its possible for box to change itself into Neutral which sounds a bit like you describe, that could be in the 'computer' may need Jeep diagnosics or an auto specialist.
Not an expert just a few ideas, hope you get it sorted good vehicles

Might just need a front band adjustment. Go to http://www.wjjeeps.com/tsb.htm#TRANSMISSION (http://www.wjjeeps.com/tsb.htm#TRANSMISSION) and it will explain how. My 2000 WJ did that and when it was at dealer for other issues had them do it and its fine now. Still have the other issues though.

V8s have the 45RFE transmissins which don't have bands or any adjustment. If there are no other issues, it 's probably just changing into 1st as it comes to a halt. Make sure it's had the fluid (must be Mopar ATF+4 not Dexron) and both filters changed regularly. The transmission computer auomatically comensates for wear.
